Sinclair Enforcing Non-Competes after Layoffs

An employee that was one of the hundreds of people laid-off by Sinclair says that she was told that the company in enforcing the non-compete clause in her contract.

In other words, if she wants to continue to work in TV news, she needs to uproot her life and move to another market.

“I was told I had to relocate even though my managers said this had nothing to do with my job performance,” the laid-off Producer told FTVLive.

We have also heard from former Meredith employees that were also told that the company would be enforcing the non-compete clause after they were laid-off.

It certainly doesn’t seem fair, but it also sends a message.

If you work in a state that still allows non-competes in contracts, make sure you get that clause taken out of the contract in the event of a layoff, before you sign.

If the company won’t take the language out, I suggest you don’t sign it.
