A Bit Biased are we?

When you watch cable news you expect the supposed “anchors” to show their political leanings, no matter if you are watching Fox News or CNN.

And while cable news is most responsible for people not trusting the media, more often than not, local news gives viewers the news without bias.

But, clearly, that is not always the case.

Last week, KWWL’s (Waterloo) morning anchor Daniel Winn was interviewing U.S. Representative and former TV news anchor Ashley Hinson on the station’s newscast.

Winn clearly shows his bias. Not only was he throwing softballs to help amplify Hinson’s talking points, twice Winn characterized a controversial Biden administration initiative as “crazy.”

Here is a portion of the transcript.

Winn: Yeah, you mentioned the border right there, I do want to talk about that as well. So, I—I don’t know where to go with this. There have been reports that the White House (chuckles) wants to give 450 thousand dollars to illegal immigrants who were separated at the border.

To you I ask, is this real? Because this seems pretty crazy.

It should be pointed out that the alleged payments were only floated for families that had children separated from their parents for months or years. Many of those families were seeking asylum in the U.S., which is not illegal.

At least 1,000 children “still haven’t been reunited with their parents,” due to poor record-keeping under the Trump administration.

Also, President Biden has since said that the payments are not happening.

“KWWL might as well have had Hinson’s press secretary conduct the interview,” said the blog Bleeding Heartland.

Many stations claim to be holding the powerful accountable, but it appears that KWWL and Daniel Winn are more into just letting them go unchallenged.
