News Director Gets Big Bump Up

I fully admit to being biased when it comes to News Directors getting promoted to General Manager jobs.

I love the fact that a News Director gets bumped up to the corner office over some salesperson that has little or no understanding as to how the news department operates.

So, with that being said, it is nice to see that Graham’s WJXT, right here in Jacksonville has named Terri Cope-Walton as the new GM of the station.

She comes from the News Director gig at WRTV in Indianapolis, a job she has had since 2013.

“This is an outstanding opportunity to work with a great team, and at two legacy stations," Cope-Walton said. "I look forward to settling into the Jacksonville community and continuing the great work WJXT and WCWJ are known for in the market."

FTVLive has been a long proponent of stations hiring more women to be GM’s and ND’s. We have also urged companies to put more people of color in management roles. And, we have also thought that News Directors make good General Managers.

It appears that Graham knocked this hire out of the park.

She starts here in Jax in mid-November.
