Cracks Form in Cronkite School of Journalism

While the country focuses on racial injustice in the name of George Floyd and others, voices are growing louder when it comes to the environment at a top Journalism School.
Current and former students at the Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University are starting to come forward with stories of racism and sexual harassment claims against the school.

There are also claims against the incoming Dean of the Journalism school, Sonya Forte Duhé.
A letter signed by NABJ, NAHJ, AAJA, and NAJA was asking for the school to remove Duhé before she officially started the job.
After this letter and other pushback, the school decided to send Duhe packing before she even started. Executive Vice President and University Provost Mark Searle said in part, "After a national search led by an excellent search committee, we had selected Dr. Sonya Duhé to lead the Cronkite School as Dean and as CEO of the KAET Public Television station. At the time we had high confidence we had selected the right person for the position. Subsequently, issues and concerns have arisen and additional information has come to light. I now find that the future of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication and our public television station will be better served by not advancing with Dr. Duhé as their leader.
As for the other concern with current staff, ASU said in a statement that people who have concerns or complaints they want the university to look into can submit reports to offices that investigate employee and student conduct violations.
Maybe the school should look into who they hire a bit more closely before they hire them. Also, when your students speak out, try acting on it, and not making them fill out some stupid form.
