Forget About Paying Your Dues in THis Business

Nicole Neilson recently graduated from the University of Oklahoma and has landed her very first job in TV news.

So, which market is she starting in? Yuma? Ft. Smith? Steubenville?

None of the above.

Neilson has landed a job reporting and anchoring at the CBS O&O in Dallas. She posted about her new gig on her social media.

Dallas is in the No. 5 TV market and it wasn’t that long ago that it would take years in this business to land a job in a top 10 market. Now, you graduate and jump right to the front of the line.

This is not a knock against Nicole Neilson, good for her, but it does show just how much this business has changed. The fact that CBS would hire a kid just out of school also shows you how much CBS has changed.

KTVT is also the station in which a Reporter sued the station after being twice passed over for younger applicants.

CBS has spent the past month riding their stations of high priced talent with years of experience and now appears to be replacing that talent with kids fresh out of school, who they can pay next to nothing.

Bill Paley is rolling over one more time.
