Hanging Up at Nexstar

Well, it was good while it lasted.

The staff at KTLA have been told that they are losing their company cellphone. Years ago, FTVLive told you that Nexstar was getting rid of the staff allowing to have company phones as they put in a new policy.

KTLA had phones when they were a Tribune station, but now that they have been gobbled up by Nexstar, the phones are going bye-bye.

Here is the email sent to the staff by GM Janene Drafs and obtained by FTVLive.

BTW, before anyone at KTLA signs on to take the monthly stipend, read the policy how much Nexstar will have access to your phone. In other words, don’t take the money.

Hey Team KTLA –

For those of you with company cell phones, we are going to begin transitioning to Nexstar’s phone policy as each of your cell plans come to an end.   Nexstar’s policy is to give eligible employees a stipend to purchase the phone/plan of your choice.

As an eligible employee, your Manager will be letting you know when your current plan expires.   At that time you will receive a copy of the Nexstar Cell Phone Policy for your review and signature, and after we receive a signed policy agreement, you will begin receiving the stipend, paid through your regular payroll – it’s that simple.

Knowing you may have some questions, here is a list of FAQs that may answer some/all of them:

  • Can I keep my current phone?   Yes.

  • Can I keep my current phone number?   Yes.

  • How much is the monthly stipend?   $75.00

  • How is the stipend paid?    This payment will be automatically paid into your paycheck once you have signed and submitted the policy agreement.

  • How do I switch over?  What do I do?

    • Sign the Nexstar Cell Phone Policy Agreement

    • Select a provider

    • Contact provider and explain that you want to create your own account and have your number moved to it.

  • How soon do I have to complete this?   You have 30 days prior to being notified by your Manager

  • Will everyone be transitioning at the same time?    No, you will be notified when your current plan expires.  You have 30 days from that time to change to the stipend reimbursement, personal plan.

Right now we are putting together a list of all plan expiration dates, and will have more information out to you in the coming days.   We are also researching any special data plan pricing that may be available, which of course we will share.  So – heads up on the change, and more information coming soon.
