Another Defection in Salt Lake City

After the state of Utah banned non-competes, Sinclair’s KUTV has watched their top talent walk out the door and across the street to other stations.

People like longtime Reporter Dan Rascon left to go to KSL. RaeAnn Christensen left for the PBS station in town and when Consumer Reporter Matt Gephardt announced in December that he was leaving KUTV, everyone knew that he would be showing up on another station in town.

Yesterday, KSL announced that Gephardt is joining the station’s Investigative Unit.

“There is something really, really romantic about doing local news for a company that is locally owned,” said Gephardt. “That is very rare in this industry, and it’s really appealing.”

It is yet another defection from KUTV and it won’t be the last.

Wonder why so many people are looking to get out, a number that did, say this was the reason.
