When Nexstar bought the Tribune stations it included the sale of WPIX in New York.

At the time to stay under the cap, Nexstar sold WPIX to Scripps with a promise that they could buy the station back from Scripps if they did so in an allotted time.

Insiders at the station tell FTVLive that employees are being told that WPIX will be taken over by Mission Broadcasting early next year.

Mission Broadcasting is the sidecar of Nexstar and that means that Nexstar will control the NYC station.

Sources say that Nexstar CEO Perry Sook has long wanted to have a station in the No. 1 market and it appears that in early of 2021, that is going to happen.

As to what happens to the senior management at WPIX that are currently employed by Scripps?

Stay tuned….
