Yesterday, the news came down that Jim Lehrer had passed away at 85 years old.

I happened to be on the phone with a couple of TV people under the age of 40 and I told them that Jim Lehrer had died.

Both of them replied, “Who is Jim Lehrer?”

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For those that don’t know, Jim Lehrer is the founder and longtime Anchor of the PBS NewsHour. He also moderated a number of Presidential debates.

“I’m heartbroken at the loss of someone who was central to my professional life, a mentor to me and someone whose friendship I’ve cherished for decades,” said Judy Woodruff, anchor and managing editor of the PBS NewsHour. “I’ve looked up to him as the standard for fair, probing and thoughtful journalism and I know countless others who feel the same way.”

Jim Lehrer was not flashy, he just did his job and did it very well. He helped make TV news better and he will be missed.
