What Happens at WISH?

Nexstar takeover of Tribune is now done and that means that most of the Tribune stations are now under Nexstar’s control.

Nexstar did spin off some of the Tribune and some of their own stations to get the deal done.

Those stations that were spun off went to either Scripps or Tegna.

But, WISH in Indianapolis did not go to any big TV group.

The station was bought by DuJuan McCoy.

McCoy bought both WISH-TV and WNDY-TV from Nexstar for the low price of $42.5 million.

Many in the WISH newsroom are very concerned about their future?

WISH was the longtime CBS affiliate, but lost that years ago and is now a CW station. Now under McCoy’s Circle City Broadcasting, they have no sister stations and a lot of news hours to fill.

Insiders say that McCoy also told people he doesn’t believe digital should be first and isn’t fond of local sports.

Sources tell FTVLive that in an all-staff meeting a few months ago McCoy says “ok if you buy a house for $40k and someone offers you $90k what do you do with it?!” and the entire sales team yells “SELL!” and he agrees, that doesn’t sit well.

There are two staff meetings on the agenda today, in which McCoy will layout his future plans for the station.

Needless to say, many news staff at WISH have left or are attempting to leave.

As one staffer that is leaving said to FTVLive, “I don’t know what the future of WISH-TV is, but I’m not sticking around to find out.”

Sounds like a good plan.
