Cynné Simpson who has been evening co-anchor at Atlanta's WAGA Fox 5 Atlanta announced during Monday's 5PM newscast her decision to depart from the station after 6 years.

Simpson's last day is next Wednesday (August 14) and she says she will be focusing on humanitarian work. Prior to WAGA, Simpson worked at DC ABC affiliate WJLA where she anchored morning and noon news during her 5 years there. Before WJLA, she worked at Atlanta CBS affiliate WGCL for 3 years,.

As for Simpson's replacement/successor?

WAGA could opt to stay in-house, with names like Alyse Eady, Sharon Lawson, Portia Bruner, or Deidra Dukes. Eady and Lawson are on Good Day Atlanta. Dukes co-anchors weekend news. Bruner has been another mainstay.

Or a name from a competing Atlanta station, as Atlanta viewers have a thing for name and face recognition. It'd be interesting to see whether Fox could be sniffing around former WGCL anchorwoman and current MARTA spokesperson Stephany Fisher, or former WSB and WGCL anchor JaQuitta Williams, or if another name in Atlanta TV news (past or present) is being looked into.

Stay tuned.
