It’s that time of year when you see changes coming to the News Director’s office.

The May book is over, the ratings are broken down and that means it might be time for a change.

Tegan’s WTOL (Toledo) has decided to “go a different direction” and that direction does not include News Director Anthony Knopps.

Knopps “resigned” this week, according to WTOL GM Brian Lorenzen.

“We just decided to move in a different direction,” Lorenzen said. “He’s made his mark here. He is a longstanding member of the community and he’s a great guy. We wish him well.”

Lorenzen said he could not comment further on Knopps’ departure, but did say it was not related to the station’s new owner, Tegna Inc.

Knopps declined to comment.

Lauren Weppler, the station’s assistant news director, will serve as interim news director until the job opening is filled.

Knopps had been at the station almost 4 years.
