The New Boss is Coming! Clean Everyone, Clean!

I love the fact how so many TV newsrooms are cesspools of dirt and grime, that is until the corporate bosses come into town.

As FTVLive readers know, Nexstar CEO Perry Sook and his right hand man Tim Busch have been making the rounds to the Tribune stations that Nexstar is buying.

The couple got an interesting welcome at WGN in Chicago and it was sort of copied by KTLA in Los Angeles.

Now, Uncle Perry and Aunt Tim are coming to KDVR/KWGN in Denver early next week. And, while the station is not offering up some stunt, they are trying desperately to clean up the mess.

Sources say that General Manager Joan Barrett and News Director Brian Gregory are walking around the newsroom like drill sergeants and demanding that people clean up their area.

One insiders says that the news staff has been told that the news content the night before and day of the visit must be super local, urgent and creative. Ummmm….shouldn’t it be like that everyday?

Gregory is going to have a “CLEAN TEAM” walking around the newsroom tomorrow to check on how people are doing with the tidy up. He sent out this memo to the staff that was obtained by FTVLive:

Subject: Nexstar Visit Next Tuesday (4/2) -- What to Expect

Team –

Nexstar is visiting the station on their due diligence trip next Tuesday, April 2nd. They are doing these at all stations they will own after the close. A majority of the stations are done. We are next up!

Here are the two people who are visiting:

Perry Sook, Chairman, President and CEO

Tim Busch, President, Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc.

Their bios can be found here: https://www.nexstar.tv/corporate-officers/

Perry & Tim are expected to arrive at 9am – and will do a tour of the entire station in the morning. You can expect them to want to meet you, shake your hand, and find out what you do here. Don’t hesitate to tell them about what makes our team, our station, and the job you do here so cool (and important).

A couple of housekeeping notes:

CLEAN UP AROUND YOUR DESK and AROUND YOUR WORK STATIONS BY C.O.B. on THURSDAY!

That includes the Everyday office, TOC, the control rooms, the WX and Sports office, investigative wing, the lunch room, and especially the newsroom. Just take a few extra moments to make sure everything looks good. We have a dumpster here near the receiving area if needed (5th Street side of the building).

I’ll have a CLEAN TEAM in the newsroom walking around Friday helping to make sure things are clean and organized. Please help them by making sure your area around your desk is clean and orderly – so they can focus on the common areas.

To that end – please make sure everything is off the top of the pods (not just for the visit – this is for everyday). Also – use the make-up room to store any clothes, instead of hanging them off the cubicle or your chair. Your coat on the back of your chair is fine.

Thanks for all you do to make us successful here. If you have questions about their visit don’t hesitate to come talk to me.

Brian Gregory

News Director

And here is Joan Barrett’s two cents on the matter”

Our future owners will be here next Tuesday, April 2nd. Perry Sook, Chairman, President and CEO, and Tim Busch, President of Nexstar will be here from 8:30 am until 5 PM. We plan to take a station tour first thing. Both Perry and Tim like to meet staff – so please introduce yourself and tell them what you do here. If there is time, we will take a walk through the newsroom before they leave that afternoon to meet some of the nightshift as well. Please take a few minutes to clean up your work space and dress accordingly. I’m including both their bios and pictures – so you know a little about them before you meet them tomorrow. All indications are that closing is on track to happen before August 31st.
