Former Sacramento Chopper Pilot Killed in Crash

Former KOVR News Chopper pilot Paul Matero was killed in a crash.

Matero was piloting a sightseeing tour in Hawaii on Thursday when the chopper went down after striking a cliff.

Matero and the six people on board the chopper were all killed.

Mateo had been flying helicopters for more than 40 years and was “all about safety.” Flying helicopters was in his blood because his father was also a helicopter mechanic and pilot. According to the FAA, Matero was a certified commercial pilot and airframe and power plant mechanic

Matero worked for KOVR in the early 80s as the station’s chopper pilot.
