These Are Not Cost Cutting Moves

The new General Manager at Scripps owned WKBW kicked a few staff members to the curb, but he said that were not cost cutting moves.

Marc Jaromin let go the personal assistant to two previous general managers and a long-time member of the promotions department.

The personal assistant, Debbie Nolan, had been at the station for 33 years, the last 14 working for former General Managers Bill Ransom and Mike Nurse.

In an email, Jaromin said these were not cost-cutting moves. “This is more about reimagining and repositioning limited resources to expand multiplatform content in 2020,” wrote Jaromin.

However, according to sources, he told a staff meeting earlier this month that all Scripps stations are being asked to make cuts and that WKBW is affected less than other stations. He also acknowledged there is an operational budget freeze.

Some staffers took that to mean there is a hiring freeze and that some people who recently left would not be replaced.
