Out the Door at Tegna

Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that Joel Cheatwood, Tegna’s VP of Content Development was leaving the company next week.

Cheatwood joined Tegna back in 2016 and was the person driving Tegna into ditching traditional journalism and making the news more geared to millennials.

The biggest problem was most millennials don’t watch TV news and many Tegna stations have dropped in the ratings.

Back in October, FTVLive FIRST tipped you off that Tegna was looking to end the Joel Cheatwood experiment at their stations.

Yesterday, Cheatwood posted the following to his social media:

It is not clear where Tegna goes from here, but a number of Tegna employees tell FTVLive that they hope it means that real journalism will return, hiring comics to anchor newscasts will go away and that they can once again be proud to say work as a Journalist at Tegna.

Time will tell if those employees get their wish.
