WTMJ parted ways to Anchor George Mallet back in February.
Since then, the station has had Anchor Steve Chamraz filling in at 5 and 10PM.
After the station pocketed enough money in savings, they have finally decided to give Chamraz the gig full-time.
The decision is one of the first major on-air moves since Jeff Kiernan, WTMJ's former news director, rejoined the Scripps-owned station in March as senior director of local content.
The station did not have a good May book. WTMJ slid to a 3.2 rating at 5 p.m., vs. 4.9 a year ago, according to Nielsen ratings data provided by local television stations.
At 10 p.m., where WTMJ led in May 2017 with a 6.2 rating, the station this year posted a 4.3 rating.
And yet, they still promoted the fill-in guy?
