How cool is this?

As a teenager growing up in the Roanoke area,  Victoria Wood used to watch the local news on WDBJ with her parents.

Now she will be a part of those newscasts.

The CBS affiliate has hired Wood as its new weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter. She succeeds Zac Glover, who left the station last month. Wood made her reporting debut with the Roanoke television station Wednesday and will make her anchoring debut Sunday.

Wood left WHSV-TV in Harrisonburg to join WDBJ. Wood had worked at WHSV since 2016, joining as a news reporter before adding weekend sports anchor to her duties last year.

She said she is looking forward to working exclusively on the sports side for WDBJ.

“I wanted to try news, and I enjoyed it. But there is just something about the atmosphere of being at a game in the middle of the action — the stands are going crazy, the adrenaline is pumping, everything’s on the line — that not even breaking news can satisfy for me,” she said. “My personality on air is one of a lot of excitement and energy, so the two together just made a perfect match.
