WTMJ in Milwaukee got the Feb book off to an interesting start by firing their Anchor.

George Mallet, who rejoined WTMJ in 2016 as the co-anchor of the NBC affiliate's flagship newscast six years after leaving the station, is out again.

"I honestly thought things had been going pretty well," Mallet said. "We had a couple of bad ratings books, but when I first got here we had some successive ratings victories."

Here's the internal memo sent out by WTMJ GM Joe Poss and obtained by FTVLive:

Two years ago, Mallet returned to WTMJ to co-anchor the station's 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts with Carole Meekins. He had left the station in 2010 to become the main anchor at WPTZ-TV, in the Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Burlington, Vt., market.

What his next career step will be is less certain.

"I don't know. I really don't," Mallet said. "I've got to look at my contract to see what my options are. … We'll see where it goes."
