No. 2 on Worst List "Retires"

KTVU General Manager Gregg Kelley almost topped the list of FTVLive’s “Worst People in TV News.”

He came 2nd place.

Back In January, FTVLive wrote this:

Finding Kelly is like a game of Where's Waldo?

One staffer tells FTVLive, "Many KTVU employees have never met or seen the GM since he took over the station. He has never held a station meeting and I don't recall him ever even sending a stationwide e-mail in regards to anything.. from thanking employees for a job well done or announcing a new hire. He disappears for days or weeks at a time without explanation."

But that doesn't mean that Kelly does not have an eye on the place. Word is that scores of cameras are placed around the building so Kelly and his head of HR can spy on people at every turn .

"I hate it here, you feel like you're in a prison," said one KTVU staffer that says they plan on leaving the station soon.

The Fox O&O's are known for their Gestapo tactics and their spying on employees, but Kelly and his team take it to a whole new level.

Well now word has come down that Kelly is “retiring” from The Firm’s station in San Francisco.

“We have reluctantly agreed to Gregg’s request to retire out of respect and the highest regard we have for him. He has been a positive driving force for 28 years at Fox Television Stations, having led No. 1 news teams at several of our stations, including Boston, Washington, D.C. and San Francisco’s No. 1 station, KTVU,” The Firm’s CEO Jack Abernethy said.

“Total bullshit, he is not retiring because he wants to,” said one station insider to FTVLive.

Whether he retired or was told to retire, it makes no difference. The bottom line is that this guy treated many of his employees like dirt and now he’s leaving.

The industry as a whole is better for it.

Just my opinion.
