Headed Down The 5

It appears that one Tribune News Director is jumping off the ship before Sinclair gets onboard.

KTXL (Sacramento) ND Ed Chapuis is headed down The 5 freeway for the ND gig at Scripps owned KGTV in San Diego.

Chapuis had been at the Sac-Town station for 4 years and is getting out just before Sinclair takes over as the new owner.

He’s replacing Tiffani Lupenski, who abruptly left KGTV after a little more than 24-month.

“I’m honored to join KGTV to work alongside such a strong group of journalists,” said Chapuis. “The station has a terrific reputation for creative storytelling, investigative journalism and covering stories that matter to San Diegans.  I look forward to becoming a part of the team.”

Chapuis starts a couple of weeks.

FTVLive obtained the internal memo that Chapuis sent to the staff:

Dear Fox40 News Team,

The time has come for me to leave FOX40.  Those are very difficult words to write.

We’ve all worked incredibly hard the past four years to build our journalistic credibility and earn the respect of our viewers.  When I tell people I work at FOX40 News, I say it proudly -- because the feedback now is so positive.  We are the most “real” station in Sacramento – gritty and down-to-earth – and viewers love that. Thank you for putting your heart and soul into FOX40 and making it great. I am proud of you.  The FOX40 News team is very strong.  I know you will continue to dig up unique stories, kick ass on breaking news --- and above all --- tell stories with empathy and humanity. You make News That Matters a positive brand.

I’ve been hired as the News Director at KGTV, the ABC station in San Diego owned by The E.W. Scripps Company.  This move will help me grow professionally while providing greater stability for my family.  I’m excited about the new opportunity and look forward to the challenges of a new market.

My last day at FOX40 will be this Friday September 8.  If I don’t see you before I go, please reach out and call or write.  I’d like to stay connected.   Here’s my contact info:

As I leave, I want you all to know that FOX40 is the best “team” I’ve ever been on.  You care about each other.  There is genuine laughter in the newsroom every day.  The camaraderie among co-workers, both at work and afterward, is truly incredible. Be proud of that.  Cherish it.  Preserve it.  Don’t let the care, love and compassion you have for each other ever change.

Take care – of yourselves and each other – and I hope that our paths will cross again.  This is a small business.  And remember – the only thing you truly carry with you is your good name.   Protect that.  It’s important.

Sincerely,
Ed Chapuis | Vice President & News Director
