Taking Tegna to Task

FTVLive gets emailed a lot of tips and many times we get the same tip sent in by many different people (we always say, we would rather get the same tip 100 times, then not get it at all).

But this next story might be the most emailed story to FTVLive in our history.

And it involves Tegna.

As Hurricane Harvey had his sites squarely set on Texas, news crews descended on the area to bring viewers coverage.

Covering a hurricane is a dangerous job for any news crew. Between the high winds, high water and the fact that no one else is around, it's a dangerous combination.

Tegna owned KBMT (Beaumont) sent Reporter Jacque Masse and Photographer.....errrrrr..... wait, there was no Photographer.

The station sent a single MMJ into the eye of the storm with no one there to help her.

Are you kidding me?!

"Downright dangerous. What on earth was this ND thinking?" said one emailer to FTVLive.

"Why would TEGNA ever think it's okay to send an MMJ out to one man band a fucking Hurricane?!?!" said another email.

Ever since Tegna split off from Gannett, many have watched the company slide down a slippery slope. The dollar has become much more important than the news and it appears employees safety.

But sending a single MMJ to cover a hurricane is not only one of the cheapest moves we've ever seen, it was dangerous.

It's time that Tegna starts putting their own employees' safety before the almighty dollar.

Tegna should be ashamed of this and judging by all the mail to FTVLive, we're surely not the only one that feels that way.
