Out the Door in San Antonio

A San Antonio Anchor is leaving the station to..... go ahead, say it with me.....spend more time with her family.

KENS Anchor/reporter Jenny Suniga said she’s leaving her job of five years at the CBS affiliate to take a needed “step back” and focus on family.

“It’s really important for me to pick up my daughter from school and take her to soccer practice and dance classes,” Suniga said of 6-year-old Tessa, who’s heading into first grade. “I want to be able to read to her at night and tuck her in, and I don’t want to feel like a zombie when I do those things. I want to give her the same strong foundation my mother gave me.”

Until Monday, when Suniga’s departure became official at KENS, she helmed the station’s Sunday morning news show and would fill in for weekday anchors during absences or vacations. She also reported stories during the week on KENS’ a.m. newscast.

Her early shift, which required her to rise at 3 a.m., became hard on her health and physique, she said.

“I want to get back in shape, feel healthy again. Working that overnight shift can be hard on you,” she said. “I have asthma and allergies … and getting no sleep didn’t help. I’d get only four hours.

“Jenny shared with me she would like to spend more time at home and growing her family,” KENS GM TomCury said. “We support Jenny’s decision, wish her well, and thank her for her years of service with KENS.”
