Indy Anchor's Wife is Making Him Retire (Updated)

Longtime WISH Anchor David Barras says he's retiring form TV news, because his wife is making him.

“This was my and my wife’s decision,” Barras said. “It’s just … it’s time.”

He spent 37 years at the station and of course, because he has that Anchor ego, he wants everyone to know that no one asked him to leave. In fact, when he told managers of his intentions, they wanted him to stay.

His wife Kathy just retired form her job and wanted David to to the same.

David said, “I have no idea how long I’ll be able to grace this Earth, and we both wanted to have time to do things we wanted to enjoy.”

The time off will include some travel, likely a cruise of the Panama Canal. They also will spend more time with his family.

Of course he will.

He signs off on December 1st. So, in other words he announced that he's leaving in August (not a ratings book) and is leaving in December (not a ratings book).

You would think after 37 years, he would have learned something.

Update: In an earlier report we said Barras was signing off Dec. 31st, not December 1st. Dave emailed us to say, " I may not have learned much in my 37 years, but I have learned accuracy is important."

So, we made the change and are impressed that in 37 years, David Barras has never made a single mistake. Not one. Now that my friends is impressive.
