We Told You This Was Coming

FTVLive has talked time and time again about TV stations and their presence on Facebook.

Stations will spend big money trying to get viewers to "like" them on Facebook. Management will badger talent to post to Facebook. And stations will even give away money or hold contests trying to get people to go to their Facebook page.

Now, imagine if TV stations spent all this time and effort on something that they actually owned? You know, like maybe the station website?

It blows us away that stations will put so much effort into their Facebook page while almost ignoring their own station website.

We have said that at any point and time, Facebook could change the rules and make stations start paying to have their page on Facebook. In fact,  we predicted that what was going to happen on this podcast.

Well guess what?

It's happening.

Mashable writes that Facebook is testing a plan to remove publishers from news feed, unless they pay up.

The social network last week officially launched its secondary news feed called Explore. The feed generally features posts from Facebook Pages users don't follow. News Feed, meanwhile, hosts posts from friends and Pages users do follow.

Washable says the new plan will be creating a nightmare situation for publishers while Facebook hopes it leads to more advertising revenue.

Right now Facebook is just testing the plan, but you can expect it to be implemented sometime next year.

We told you!
