ABC Anchor used to Hide Booze in Her Boots

ABC News Anchor Elizabeth Vargas said that she used to hide booze in her knee high boots.

Vargas has been very forward with her battle against alcoholism and has written a book about it, called “Between Breaths.”

The “20/20” Anchor told People that during her darkest days struggling with alcoholism, she used to keep bottles of wine hidden in her footwear.

"I had these knee-high boots, and I would stick a bottle of wine in the boot," she told the mag. "Nobody looks in the boot."

Vargas said while hiding her wine was easy, hiding the effects was not.

The former “World News Tonight” added that while attending a rehab facility, she discovered that the number one place to hide alcohol is under the bathroom sink.

“It's the one room in the house where no one will barge in on you,” she explained.

Vargas checked into a facility in August 2014, less than one year after entering rehab for the first time.

"There was so much happening in those first few months when I was home. Really painful, public stuff. I think I was kind of in shock,” she recalled.

"Rehab isn't what finally got me sober. It was nearly losing everything and finally seeing that whatever benefit I thought alcohol gave me was outweighed by what it would cost me."
