Signing Off in Cleveland

You can stick a fork in one longtime Cleveland Political Reporter.....he's done.

WKYC's Tom Beres is retiring after more than 37 years of covering stories in Northeast Ohio.

His decision was announced yesterday.

Beres has been with the Tegna station for all of those 37 years (the last 18 as senior political correspondent). He has won four Emmys, two for investigative reporting, and is a member of the Cleveland Press Club Hall of Fame.

His last day on the air for Channel 3 will be Wednesday, Dec. 21.

"It's been a privilege to have had such a long career at Channel 3, telling the stories of people, political players, issues and events here in my home town," Beres said in a statement released Tuesday by Channel 3. "After reporting on this phenomenal year for the city of Cleveland as well as this incredible election, it seemed a logical time for my walk-off. I'm grateful to all the viewers who've watched our broadcasts and online coverage, and hope they found it worthwhile."

"We'll truly miss Tom's voice of reason.," Micki Byrnes, WKYC's president and general manager, is quoted saying in the Channel 3 release. "He's earned the respect and trust of hundreds of community and political leaders over the decades, and we hope to continue to receive his counsel and advice."
