The cold weather that is gripping the northeast is good news for TV news departments.

That is quite apparent in Buffalo, where the bitter cold is keeping people inside and watching TV.

In the first two weeks of the sweeps, WGRZ is up 18 percent at 6 a.m., 17 percent at 5 p.m., 22 percent at 5:30 p.m., 4 percent at 6 p.m. and 25 percent at 10 p.m. from the four-week averages a year ago.

Second-place WIVB is up 4 percent at 6 a.m., 32 percent at noon, 11 percent at 5 p.m. and 21 percent at 5:30 p.m. It is down 2 percent at 6 p.m.

Last place WKBW it is up 5 percent at 6 a.m. and 4 percent at noon. It is down 5 percent at 5:30 p.m. and flat at 6 p.m.

There is no doubt that mother nature will be named the MVP of the Feb book.
