Steve Capus is the former NBC News President that was on watch when the Today Show fell from first place for the first time in well over a decade.

The two maybe teaming up again at CNN.

The NY Post says that less than three weeks after exiting 30 Rock, the 49-year-old Capus is in conversation with CNN global chief Jeff Zucker about job opportunities, several sources said.

While neither is committing to anything yet, Zucker has notably just hired former NBC colleague Allison Gollust as his top spokeswoman — and speculation is rife she won’t be the only NBC alum he’ll draft to Columbus Circle.

Gollust was most recently communications boss for Gov. Cuomo.

Capus declined comment, but friends say he’s also been approached by companies in Silicon Valley, academic institutions and media firms inside and outside the US.

“He and Jeff are close,” said a someone who knows both. “They work well together.” Capus could replace Managing Editor Mark Whitaker, who departed upon Zucker’s arrival.
