Reporter Files Police Report on Kissing Man

While CTV (Canada) Reporter Megan Batchelor was going live from a music festival, a man ran up to Batchelor from behind, kissed her on the cheek and took a selfie with her before running away.

Batchelor as saying she was "rattled" by the encounter and felt like the unidentified man was purposely trying to interfere with her ability to do her job.

Batchelor has filed a police report and now they are looking for the suspect and her network is asking anyone who can identify the man to contact the police.

CTV Vancouver reporter Julie Nolin was fondled live on-air during the CTV News live 5 p.m. broadcast on the same day. As she was reporting from Squamish Fest near Batchelor, one girl hugged Nolin and another grabbed her buttocks.

“I think it's Megan's right to go to RCMP. I've had these incidents happen many times over my career,” Nolin said. “I don't agree with the behaviour, though my view is that as a reporter, you try to make the best of it. I don't know if 'girls on girl' makes it different, but I wasn't mad.”

In an emailed statement to the Canadian Press on Sunday, the CBC said that this incident is another example of a disturbing trend and the network will do everything it can to ensure its journalists are safe when reporting from the field.

The Dangers for Bay Area News Crews

For about the past 3 years, being a news crew in the San Francisco area is a dangerous job.

At least a dozen robberies of television news crews and still photographers have happened in that time. Crews have been robbed of thousands of dollars of gear. Two Photographers have been pistol whipped. An Oakland Tribune photographer lost five cameras in two incidents.

On July 2nd, two news crews were robbed during a live broadcast from San Francisco's picturesque waterfront.

As the news crew went live amid joggers and tourists, an assailant wearing a ski mask pistol whipped a KNTV cameraman and the broadcast quickly switched back to the studio. The assailant and two accomplices escaped in a late-model BMW with two stolen cameras and two tripods.

The cameraman sustained a gash behind his ear, but declined medical attention beyond what he received at the scene. The crews that morning were reporting on the shooting death of a young woman allegedly killed at random by a Mexican national living in the country illegally.

The AP writes that so far, no photojournalist has been seriously injured — but personal safety is becoming a higher priority. Assaults on routine assignments in the San Francisco Bay Area have become so commonplace that television stations have hired armed guards to sometimes ride with news crews.

Police on both sides of the San Francisco Bay are investigating the latest robberies and have made no arrests.

"We don't know what the market is for these cameras," said San Francisco Police Sgt. Michael Andraychuk. Even though the cameras can cost upward of $50,000 each, it is specialized equipment that can't be easily sold on the black market, Andraychuk said, and none of the stolen cameras have turned up on Craigslist, eBay or any other online marketplace.

Photojournalists in other parts of the country have reported robberies and assaults during riots and other chaotic situations, but San Francisco seems to have taken journalist assaults to a new level.

"It has happened in other places, but the frequency here is unprecedented," said Colin Wong, a former Oakland police officer who owns the security company hired by some stations to guard their crews.

n 2013, one of Wong's guards was accompanying a KRON reporter and cameraman when he shot and wounded a would-be robber in a rough San Francisco neighborhood. On July 21, thieves in Oakland made off with electronics stolen from a parked KTVU van while a guard stood watch over a two-person crew delivering a live report nearby.

"It's a huge issue for us," said Leonard Egert, director of the San Francisco officer of SAG-AFTRA, the union that represents most on-air reporters in the Bay Area. "Our reporters want to cover the story, but they want to be safe, too."

Tulsa Weather Anchor Leaves, Already Replaced

Oklahoma's first female Chief Meteorologist, Jennifer Zeppelin is leaving KTUL (Tulsa) and following her husband to Omaha.  Her husband has accepted a job at Creighton University.

Zeppelin had been the Chief Met at Sinclair's Tulsa ABC affiliate since 2011 it is expected that she will land at a station in Omaha once she relocated there.

It did not take long for the station to name her replacement.

Weekend Weather Anchor Mike Collier took to social media to say the main job is now his.

Collier a Tulsa native will be the new Chief Met for the station.

The search for his replacement begins.

Demoted O-Town Anchor: It's All Good

Martie Salt was one of the main Anchors at WFTV in Orlando. In the ratings her shows often come out on top.

And now,  she just got demoted.

Salt has been pushed aside as the station brings in former WESH Anchor Martha Sugalski.

Sugalski has spent the past year sitting out a non-compete, but will now return to the air and take over Salt's spot.

How does Salt feel about being demoted?

"I'm fortunate to be in a career I thoroughly enjoy and in a top role for decades," Salt, 58, said to the Orlando Sentinel. "Change is inevitable. I have a new contract. Channel 9 is treating me royally, and I have no complaints."

In changes that start Aug. 24, Sugalski will anchor at 6 and 11 p.m. on WFTV as well as at 10 p.m. on WRDQ-Channel 27. Salt gets knocked down to anchor at noon with Vanessa Echols and be the "on-air ambassador" for 9 Family Connection, the community service arm of the station.

Salt said her goal will be to bring more focus to 9 Family Connection specials and reports. "I enjoy this kind of thing. It's a different role," she said.

"Kudos to Channel 9," Salt said. "They're treating me very well. A lot times that doesn't happen. That isn't the case here."

Salt stresses that she is a realist. "Changes are inevitable in whatever line of work," she said. "Ours happens to be high profile." She quotes a line from former news director Bob Jordan: "Nobody's position is a lifetime appointment. They're not the Supreme Court. They're TV jobs."

It's Just Impossible without My Pages Numbers

The Network Anchors look so polished and in control when they are on the air.

Off air, they are freaking out just like your Anchor.

Trump on Megyn Kelly: Blood coming out of her wherever...." (Updated)

Donald Trump went on CNN via telephone (what's up with that) and continued his attack on Fox News and Megyn Kelly in particular.

Besides calling Kelly a lightweight and a number of other disparaging remarks, he seemed to imply that Kelly was tough on him, because she was on her period. Are you kidding me?!

Here is Trump talking to CNN's Don Lemon and his blood comment:

Fox News, Donald Trump Claim Ratings Victory in Debate

Fox News is giddy about their ratings for last night's debate.

Donald Trump says it is all because of him.

The debate pulled in 24 million total viewers and 7.9 million in the key A25-54 demo according to Nielsen Media Research, making it the highest-rated non-sports cable telecast of all time in total viewers.  Thursday’s event more than doubled the network’s previous high of 11.8 million total viewers, earned during coverage of the 2012 Presidential Election.

Trump tweeted out this message to Fox News:

Hate to sy he is right, but let's be honest, if Trump isn't in on that debate the numbers would not have been even half of that.

If Trump can win the GOP nomination while spitting in the face of Fox News, it will be a huge blow to Roger Ailes.

Just saying....

Man With Chainsaw Goes After News Photographer

Ahhhh... The life of a News Photographer.

WSPA (Spartanburg) Photog Joel Eaves was out on a routine assignment, getting some video of storm damage at an intersection.

It ended with Eaves being confronted by a guy with a chainsaw.

Here is the Deputies report on the incident from the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office:

On 08/06/15 I responded to the intersection of Wooten Dr and Old Converse Rd in
Spartanburg County in reference to a vandalized vehicle.

Upon arrival, I spoke with Joel Eaves who works for WSPA. He states that he was
out at this intersection shooting video of the storm damage from earlier in the
day. He had just put up his equipment and got in his vehicle to leave when a
white male, later identified at William Garrett, ran towards his vehicle with a
chain saw in his hand yelling obscenities at him. William wanted Joel to get
out of the car and delete the video he shot of him cutting up a tree. Joel says
that he felt threatened so he did not get out of the car. Joel tried to calmly
tell him that he would not use the video, but he was not getting out of the car.
William then grabbed the top of the half rolled down window and shook it. Joel
rolled the window up. After rolling the window up, William slammed the chain
saw on the hood of the vehicle. He then hit the driver's side mirror with his
hand causing it to break and then kicked the door. He finally walked away and
Joel called 911. I did observe a broken side mirror on the vehicle and a muddy
shoe print on the door. There did not appear to be any damage to the hood of
the vehicle.

While on scene, I made contact with William about the incident. I asked him
what was going on and he explained the events as Joel explained them. He did
not dispute causing any of the damage or events.
One of Joel's supervisors was on scene as well. He directed me to a person who
did have video of the event. I watched the video which corroborated the
sequence of events.

I then explained the options for the actions of William. After speaking with
Joel and his boss, they called another supervisor at the office. It was
determined that WSPA would maintain contact with William and his father and
settle the damages out of court. They did not wish to pursue charges. Before I
could have a supervisor sign a waiver of investigation, the supervisor left. I
then had Joel Eaves fill out a waiver of investigation form.

I photographed the damages to the vehicle that was damaged. Joel did provide

Wow! Just Wow...

Buzz Feed's Editor In Chief Ben Smith used Twitter to likely torpedo the career of former Fox News Reporter Jana Winter.

Winter is best known for being first to report that theater killer James Holmes had sent a notebook to his University of Colorado psychiatrist Lynn Fenton with details about his premeditated plan to kill people before he allegedly did so.

She left Fox News shortly after that and joined The Intercept as a Reporter.

Obviously, Winter is not very happy in her job at The Intercept and told Buzz Feed's Smith so in a series of direct messages on Twitter.

A screenshot of which Smith posted on his public timeline.

It wasn't long before Smith was called out and he claimed in was an accident.

Either way, it appears that Jana Winter is leaving The Intercept, either by her doing, or because of Ben Smith's "accident."

Stay tuned....

Fox Moderators Don't Shy Away from Tough Questions

A number of people were surprised that the Fox News trio of Megyn Kelly, Bret Baier and Chris Wallace were willing to ask the tough questions of the GOP candidates.

"It was kind of like watching a tiger eat her young," said cable news executive to FTVLive in an email.

Others were also saying that the trio wasn't shy when it came to the tough questions. Austan Goolsbee, a former member of President Obama's cabinet, gave Fox credit this way: "If they were treating the Dems like this, I would have said they were gratuitously busting their chops," he tweeted.

Yochi Dreazen, managing editor of Foreign Policy magazine, said some of the candidates looked "shell-shocked" by tough questions from Fox, a channel defined by its conservative political and cultural tilt.

That's what public radio host Kai Ryssdal meant when he wrote, "have to hand it to Fox News moderators for going after their guys."

Halfway through the debate, BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith said Ailes is "clearly the winner of this. This is really good TV."

And while the moderators were praised by many, not everyone thought they did a good job.

Namely Donald Trump.

When Kelly pressed him on his history of disparaging remarks about women, Trump claimed he had only spoken ill of his longtime adversary, Rosie O'Donnell.

"For the record, it was well beyond Rosie O'Donnell," Kelly said.

"Honestly, Megyn, if you don't like it, I'm sorry," Trump told the anchor. "I've been very nice to you, although I could probably not be based on the way you have treated me. But I wouldn't do that."

Trump was up late last night and early this morning taking shots at Kelly and the others as well.

Mama was right, you can't please everybody.
