30 Rock Renamed The Comcast Building

If you wonder where your money goes when you play your Comcast bill at the end of the month? Well, a portion of it went to put a huge Comcast sight at the top of 30 Rockefeller Center.

The iconic building that houses NBC has been renamed the Comcast Building.

NBC Nightly News Anchor Lester Holt talked about the buildings new name in this video posted to Facebook. It shows that not only can Holt anchor the news, he can also be a company shill when he needs to be.

David Brinkley just flipped over one more time.

Here's the video:

30 Rockefeller Plaza is officially now the "Comcast Building."

Colbert Hosts Public Access Show and it was Awesome

You still have to wait to see Stephen Colbert hosting late night on CBS, but he was back on the air, doing public access.

Colbert trekked to Monroe, Michigan to take over the city's public access talk show Only in Monroe.

It was classic TV.

The show already has 1.3 million viewers on YouTube which is about 1/3 million more viewers than the show normally gets.

Former CNN Talent Involved In Shootout

Former CNN Headline News Anchor Lynne Russell and her husband, former CNN Investigative Reporter Chuck de Caro, found themselves in a shootout in Albuquerque. When the smoke cleared, the robber was dead and de Caro bleeding from three gunshots.

KOB-TV reports Russell and de Caro stopped at a Motel 6 on their way to California. de Caro was in the shower and Russell went out to get something from the car. When she came back to the room, a man pulled a gun and forced her into the room.

De Caro came out of the shower and tried to calm the guy down. Both Russell and de Caro (a former Green Beret) carry weapons. De Caro managed to get his gun and bullets started flying.

"I am very proud of my husband. He is my hero. He saved my life," Russell said.

De Caro was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

WBZ Rookie Reporter: Fail

When will these kids learn? Or maybe a better question, when will news directors stop hiring kids with only a few years experience to work in major markets? The latest screw-up courtesy of Susie Steimle, a reporter at WBZ in Boston.  Three people are dead, but Susie is 'pretty excited". Check out her Instagram post:

Susie is a proud graduate of Mizzou. They may want to consider an ethics-sensitivity-common sense, course.

More Changes At Cleveland Station

A month ago, FTVLive was the first to report that WOIO was going to start firing people and slash salaries. One of the first big ones, was primary weather talent Jeff Tanchak.

Sources are telling us the latest victim is anchor and consumer reporter Danielle Serino. Newly installed ND, Fred D'Ambrosia has been slashing the budget like Freddy Krueger. Serino was reportedly told her contract is not being renewed. She came to WOIO from FOX Chicago.

Word is, it's a very tense place at WOIO.

EXCLUSIVE: Anchorman Suspended Again

From the 'shaking your head' files, here's one out of Albuquerque. Back in February, FTVLive broke the story that veteran KOB-TV anchor Tom Joles, had been involved in a fight in the newsroom. The GM tried to say it didn't happen, but Joles was handed a one week suspension for getting into an altercation with several people, including longtime reporter Stuart Dyson.

Fast forward to June, when FTVLive reported that despite his behavior, Joles was inducted into the New Mexico Broadcasters Hall Of Fame. Sources tell us that during his acceptance speech, Joles went off the rails. First he said he wanted to thank Dyson; that because of him, his new nickname is, "The Burque Brawler". The audience cringed. But Joles didn't stop there. He proceeded to critique the performance of other stations in the market, turning his sights on KOAT. The Hearst station does stories on how disgusting items are that you touch. The reporter swabs an item, sends it off to the lab, and then reports on whether you could have caught Ebola from the public library drinking fountain. Insiders tell us Joles says, "You guys (KOAT) should swab yourselves, because you're the dirtiest in the market."

But wait, there's more. As Joles is wrapping up his speech he tells everyone how much he enjoys hiking in the Sandia Mountains. He says as his legacy, he wants to sponsor a compost toilet near the trailhead and he wants a plaque attached that says, "In Memory Of Tom Joles. He Gave A Shit". Now, I don't know about you, but that's one classy role model.

Evidently, station management was more than embarrassed and had a conversation with Hubbard corporate headquarters. Subsequently, Joles was summoned into the boss' office, and told he would be getting another week's suspension. We hear the station gave Joles the opportunity to pick which week he'll be off. Supposedly, 'the Burque Brawler' chose sometime in August.

Maybe it's time for Joles to start picking the color of paint for that compost toilet?

(Update) CBS O&O Group Blows Out More Managers

If you're in management at the CBS Television Stations, you may not want to drink the water. In the last 30 days, KYW's ND, Susan Schiller, was canned, WCBS' Assistant ND, Valerie Federer, was fired and KCBS ND, Scott Diener, was shown the door.

Now, according to New England One, WBZ's managing editor, Pete Wilson and digital assets manager, Greg Nickerson, were both fired. Wilson had been managing editor for 6 years and spent 20 years at WBZ. Nickerson had been with the station 2.5 years.

(Update) San Francisco blogger Rich Lieberman reports that CBS O&O KPIX escorted Brandon Mercer, Director of Digital Content, out the door. Mercer was at KPIX a little less than two years. Previously, he spent 5 years as news director of Tribune's KTXL. According to his Linkedin, Mercer is now an executive producer for San Francisco Chronicle and SFGate.com.

Bets are being taken as to which CBS station, is next. Stay Tuned.

KYW-TV's new GM is wasting no time in making changes; he's not even waiting for a new news director.

With Susan Schiller gone, newly installed GM Brien Kennedy is cleaning house. Three of the station's biggest on-air names, are out: anchor Chris May, sports personality Beasley Reece and weather forecaster Kathy Orr.

When contacted for a statement, a KYW spokesperson said, "We thank them for their years of service and wish them the very best in their future endeavors."

Hey, at least no one said they're leaving to spend more time with their family.

MSNBC Exec Jabs Jeff Zucker

CNN ringmaster Jeff Zucker took some razzing from an executive at MSNBC. Page Six says Zucker and "Morning Joe" exec Michael Weisman were playing a round of golf with Discovery chief Henry Schleiff at the East Hampton Golf Club.

When Zucker sliced a ball into the woods, Weisman told him, "See if you can find that plane while looking for your ball, Zucker."  Supposedly, Zucker just shook his head and laughed.

No word on whether the flag on 18 had a dildo on it.

Roger Ailes' Farm Team

Ever wonder why Fox News always seems to have the next 'up-and-commer' before anyone's heard of them? That's because they grow them, internally.

The program is called, Ailes Junior Reporters Program, and it gives rookies the opportunity of a lifetime. There's even an 'Alpha' team and 'Bravo' team. We do have to wonder if you're assigned to the 'Bravo' team, if that means you may have to interact with Howard Kurtz?

Interested? Submit your email and someone will tell you when the next round of applications are being accepted.

Now, where do I sign up for the "Ailes Junior Bloggers Program"?

One In, One Out at KPNX

FTVLive was the first to tell you that big changes were happening at KPNX in Phoenix. Not only are talent changes being made, but a shift in content, as well.

Replacing long-time anchor Lin Sue Cooney on the primary desk, will be KNBC freelance reporter Vanessa Ruiz. We first told you of her a few weeks ago, when her soon-to-be co-anchor, Mark Curtis, accidentally tweeted how much he was looking forward to her visit. It's an interesting choice for a major market TV station given that Ruiz' experience wouldn't lead one to believe she's primary anchor material for market 11. Nonetheless, sources say they went with her in an effort to recruit multi-cultural viewers. We'll see.

What's not in the press release, is KPNX not renewing 14-year anchor Fay Fredericks. Her contract runs through later this year, but she's been told that if she finds a job in the meantime, they'll release her early.  Fay has been on the primary desk, the morning desk, and now back to filling in until Ruiz shows up.

Welcome to TEGNA.

CNN Assignment Editor Denies Reporting on Dildo Flag

On Saturday, FTVLive told you that CNN ran an "exclusive" story how an ISIS flag was being waved at a gay pride rally in London.

Problem was it NOT an ISIS flag, but it was a flag with pictures of dildos.

CNN International Assignment Editor Lucy Pawle snapped exclusive pictures of the "ISIS Flag" and then went on the air to talk about it.

The video was also posted to the CNN website. But when viewers started informing CNN that the flag was covered in sex toys and was not the ISIS flag, CNN pulled the video and refused to talk about it.

Pawle took to Twitter saying she never reported the story.

Huh?!

Many on Twitter were left scratching their heads, because they watched Pawle report the story that she denied reporting.
