NY Anchor Writes Book about Her Divorce

Talk about turning lemons into lemonade...

WPIX Anchor Tamsen Fadal had her marriage announced in the New York Times. Five years later he rocky marriage was fodder for the NY Post.

“Details about our bickering and our blowups, my ex-husband’s other alleged woman and, as Page Six put it, his other, other woman,” she writes.

Fadal got divorced and in between anchoring newscasts at WPIX, she wrote a book about being back on the singles market and how she dealt with it.

Fadal says the book came “organically” after crossing into her 40s and having a life changing event on her hands. She was consuming self-help books, and jotting down her own thoughts on improvement. While the self-help category can get a bit wishy-washy, Fadal says her notes were a bit more grounded. “I’m a journalist, so it was more black and white,” she says.

The New Single goes beyond relationships, with tips on managing careers and finances as well. The book is broken into 90-day guidelines, offering advice on cyberdating, dieting and accepting your former spouse, among other topics.

Richmond Anchor Loses Cancer Fight

Longtime WTVR (Richmond) Anchor Stephanie Rochon lost her battle with cancer yesterday.

Rochon had anchored the news at WTVR since 1999.

“Stephanie’s passing is a tremendous loss to our CBS 6 family and the Central Virginia community,” WTVR CBS 6 news director Sheryl Barnhouse said. “For 15 years here at WTVR, Stephanie inspired those around her to be better journalists and impacted many lives through her anchoring and Buddy Check 6 reports. Stephanie’s spirit, bright smile and infectious laugh will live on in the hearts of many.”

Rochon was just 50 years old.

Nexstar Swings the Ax in Sin City

Word out of Las Vegas is that Nexstar is swinging the ax today at KLAS.

Nexstar officially took over the station back in February and most staffers figured that Nexstar would start cutting to the bone.

This is the second round of cuts, FTVLive tipped you off to the first round shortly after Nexstar took over the station.

No numbers on how many people are getting cut right now, but one of those that was whacked tells FTVLive he is, "one of many."

A quick search of social media shows that KLAS Social Media Manager Barrett Tryon is one of those that caught the falling blade.

Chicago Anchor Organizes March Against Tampa Restrictions

The NHL Stanley Cup Final between the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning is starting to get ugly.

Tampa is doing their best to keep Blackhawk fans out of their arena.

The Lightning has restricted ticket sales through Ticketmaster to only people living in Florida. They also say no Chicago Blackhawks gear is allowed in some areas of the arena.

WGN (Chicago) Sports Anchor Pat Tomasulo isn't too happy about these restrictions and he's taking matters into his own hands.

Did Memphis Reporter Break The Law with Tweet?

WMC (Memphis) Reporter Amy Speropoulos was driving to a breaking news story early this morning. She was following the station's live truck and sent out this tweet:

Clearly, Speropoulos took this picture from the driver's seat and then tweeted it out. In Tennessee drivers are prohibited from texting and driving.

Someone might want to pass that along to Amy.

Breaking: Queen Elizabeth is Still Alive

A tweet by a BBC Reporter had US networks scrambling.

Ahmen Khawaja, a reporter working for the BBC's Urdu-language service, quickly deleted the tweet.

Khawaja later said that she had left her cellphone at home unattended. She tweeted: "Silly prank, Apologies for upsetting anyone!"

The initial report of the Queens death was picked up by CNN Newsource.

Other networks actually picked up the phone and found out that the rumor was not true before sending anything out.

I know, what a novel concept. Right?

It's All About Ratings for ESPN Espy Award

Lauren Hill was dying from a rare brain tumor. But instead of saying "poor me," Hill played basketball on her high school team and not only inspired her teammates, but inspired people around the world with her attitude and drive.

This was all happening while she was dying.

She helped raise awarness for the type of tumor she was fighting. She helped raise money, not to help her, but to help the people after her that came down with the same thing.

Sadly, back in April, Lauren Hill died from that very tumor.

But, she lived more life in 17 years that many people live in 80. "Good person" doesn't not to begin to describe her.

ESPN will be handing out their ESPY Awards and it includes the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

You would think that Lauren Hill would be a lock to get that award.

She will not.

ESPN is giving the award to a person that hasn't competed in sports in almost 40 years.

The network will give the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at next month's ESPY Awards to Caitlyn Jenner.

Why?

Because of ratings and ratings only. They know that having Jenner on the show will goose the numbers and in the end, that's all that counts.

Ironically EPSN calls it their Courage Award, yet the network did not have the courage to go with the right person to get the award.

It is likely that Caitlyn Jenner will be around for next year's ESPY Awards. Lauren Hill will not be. ESPN could have waited a year, but they know that a year from now, Jenner will be old news and will not be the ratings draw.

So, ESPN went for the ratings, instead of the right choice.

I will not be watching the ESPYS this year in protest, I really hope that many of you will do the same.

San Diego Sports Anchor Testifies at Shooter's Hearing

KFMB Sports Anchor Kyle Kraska took the stand at a hearing for the guy that is accused of gunning him down in his own driveway.

"I looked down and realized I'd been shot. I looked down and saw holes in my clothes. I saw blood and I remember saying out loud, you shot me" but the man said nothing, Kraska testified.

Kraska identified Mike Montana as the man who opened fire on him on Feb. 10 as the anchor was backing out of his driveway in his silver Mercedes.

After Kraska pointed him out, Montana raised his hand and waved at the sportscaster.

Montana has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder. His preliminary hearing was scheduled to continue Today in San Diego County Superior Court. A judge will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

Kraska testified that he hired Montana last year to repaint his Scripps Ranch house for $3,000 and gave him $800 up front. He had found Montana's business card taped to his front door.

"I felt like he needed the work and I wanted to give him an opportunity," Kraska said.

But the work was shoddy and he refused to pay Montana the rest, he said.

Montana quit in November, he said, but a week before the shooting left a note at Kraska's home.

Kraska read it in court.

"It said 'Kyle, you're using the house I painted. But you owe me $2,200. It's in your best interest to pay me. Send it to Mike Montana.'"

Kraska said on Feb. 10 he was backing out of his driveway to go to work when he saw a van approach and Montana got out and walked toward him.

Kraska said he rolled down his window and Montana told him: "You should have paid me my $2,200," then began shooting, according to the Union-Tribune.

"I realized that I'm in terrible danger," Kraska said.

Kraska said Montana pointed the gun at him and he heard window glass explode. He tried to get out of the car and crawl on his hands and knees but at some point realized he had been wounded.

He told Montana: "You shot me" but got no reply, Kraska testified.

Kraska said he got back into his car and curled up to avoid being hit again until he heard tires screeching as the car drove off.

Kraska said he then crawled about 50 feet from his cul-de-sac to an intersection where people spotted him.

Several windows in the car were blown out.

Montana was arrested at his El Cajon home about seven hours later.

Back Into TV News

Back in November of last year, FTVLive FIRST told you that KSAZ (Phoenix), weekend Anchor Kristin Keogh was out at the station.

Keogh started a YouTube Channel about making home crafts. Not long after that in December, Keogh took a job in PR. She became the PIO for the Arizona Attorney General.

But, proving that once you're in TV news you can never leave, Keogh took to social media to talk about her new job:

For those keeping track, that is 4 jobs in less than a year.

You gots to love this business.
