Tulsa News Director is Bounced as Feb Book Just gets Going

Sources tell FTVLive that KJRH News Director Susan D'Astoli is out.

D'Astoli joined the station in mid 2012 and now leaves as the very important February book just gets started.

FTVLive contacted the Scripps station and although no one would say why? They did confirm that she is no longer working there.

Someone from HR was spotted in her office a short time ago, cleaning out her desk.

Never a good sign.

Stay tuned....

Station Goes Off the Air During Super Bowl....Viewers Pissed

On the biggest day of the year for a TV station, WPSD (Paducah,KY) had a number of outages during the Super Bowl and needless to say, Viewers were pissed.

At least 6 outages, 3 that were very long occurred during the game and the post game.

Bill Evans, vice president of news and operations, said the outages will be investigated further on Monday, but the station initially believed that the outages were related to a major house fire near one of its substations in Ballard County, Kentucky.

Evans said the station’s chief engineer responded immediately to reports of the first outage, and headed out to the station’s transmitter located in Monkeys Eyebrow, Kentucky.

“On his way to responding to the outage, he came upon a fully engulfed house fire with fire fighters and ambulances,” Evans said. “This house fire may have had an impact on the substation, which caused a spike or a dip and caused our transmitter to go into -- for lack of a better word -- a safe mode, to protect from surges.”

Evans said it’s just a “working hypothesis” that the fully engulfed house fire may have impacted the electrical grid. He said the station was able to restart the transmitter from a smart phone app. But it takes between 10 and 12 minutes to recycle itself, he said.

With each outage, people took to Facebook and Twitter in droves to express concern -- as well as outrage.

During the first outage, WPSD posted on its Facebook page: “We know that some of you are having issues watching the game. We are working on fixing this issue.”

The station’s status was updated again to say: “We apologize, but we are still having problems with our signals. We have engineers working on the issue.”

Hundreds of people responded to the station’s posts. And most did not take kindly to the interruption of the matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Said one poster: “How come it never happens when Obama is on there?”

And another: “You don’t have ‘engineers’ working on anything...You have idiots ruining the most watched program of the year -- your advertisers must love you guys.”

And another: “Who cares about deflategate #signalgate.”

And there were plenty along the lines of this poster: “Unacceptable. No apology is gonna help here.”

Evans said that to those upset with the station, “We apologize for the outages.” He said investigation into the cause will continue next week.

Hey, At Least He's Leaving This Month

Another longtime Anchor has announced that he is going to retire.

This is the 4 or 5th Anchor that has used the Feb Book to tell viewers that they are retiring.

Longtime KTRK (Houston) Anchor Don Nelson announced this morning that he is stepping down after almost 40 years.

Of all the Anchors that have announced their pending retirement, Nelson is the first to say he is leaving this month.

All the other anchors announced they were going to retire, but that it was still months (and in one case almost a year) away from happening. Nelson says that on Feb 27th you can stick a fork in him....he's done.

What are his plans after retirement?

"I will be immediately going to the gym daily to find out where all these noises are coming from when I move," Don said.

Robin Meade Like you Have Never Seen Her Before

Here is a video of HLN's (and FTVLive) favorite Robin Meade like you have never seen her before.

You're Welcome:

60 Minutes' Steve Kroft Tried to Keep Affair Quiet

CBS 60 Minutes Correspondent Steve Kroft did his best to keep his affair with Lisan Goines as quiet as he could.

But, when a tabloid outed Kroft, the newsman quickly copped to the affair and the juicy story lost traction quickly.

But, the NY Post got their hands on some texts that they say is between Kroft and Goines and it shows how Kroft was really worried the two would be caught.

Kroft insisted she dress low-key — like “Laura Bush” — with him in public to keep things hush-hush, according to newly revealed texts.

A source close to Kroft’s lover told The Post that the TV hotshot was “really paranoid about right-wing zealots” finding out about their affair and using the tawdry details to try to destroy his career and CBS.

The sexts between Kroft and Lisan Goines — obtained exclusively by The Post — include a nude selfie of the lusty lawyer that she sent to her much-older lover. Other photos show her wearing a red thong and busting out of a black bra.

But “dress in Washington is Either professional or Laura Bush,” Kroft messaged his illicit squeeze in advance of their September 2011 play date at the Park Hyatt on 24th and M streets in DC.

“Don’t dress like Beyoncé,” Kroft warned the Harvard-educated beauty, according to the source.

In another exchange, Kroft wrote “Too old and Sick to jerk off,” reads one text to Goines from last March, to which the real-estate and corporate lawyer responded with a sexy selfie and the encouragement, “Get well soon…”

The selfie showed Goines smiling alluringly, her long hair be-ribboning her ample cleavage.

“This will help ;)” Kroft responded appreciatively.

Brian Andrews with WFOR Report Michelle Gillen before he was shown the door

Brian Andrews with WFOR Report Michelle Gillen before he was shown the door

Three more staffers left the building Friday at WFPR in Miami.

Signing off were Sports Anchor Kim Bokamper Reporter MaryAnn Martinez and Reporter Brian Andrews.

Bokamper left after not coming to terms on a new contract. He says he will now focus on his restaurants.

Martinez says she has a new gig at KENS in San Antonio.

As for Andrews he says he's done with TV News and is starting a PR consulting business.

So what’s it like to end your career on a Friday?  Andrews filled in FTVLive as what it was like for him.

"Bokamper is getting a 1:30 look back at his career and time with the Dolphins at the end of the 5.  MaryAnn is turning a package on measles.  And me?  We’ll, my day began at 8:55am when I sat down at my desk to find I had already  been wiped out of the computer system," Andrews told FTVLive.  "I was later told a mistake had been made and corporate gave me the boot from the computers a day ahead of schedule.    I went to the 2pm meeting, was told I wasn’t needed for the early 90, and was out the door by 3:15pm.   I stood at the backdoor and gave a quick shout of “thank you” and “the news continues…”  and watched my 20 years in local TV news go to a break," he said.

Not exactly how many picture their last day in TV news.

Left Coast Weatherman Announces Retirement

Screen Shot 2015-02-02 at 6.44.32 AM.png

Although the Feb book has just gotten started, a number of longtime Anchors have waited till the book, to announce that they are retiring.

You can add another one to the list.

KSBW (Monterey) Weatherman Jim Vanderzwaan has announced plans for retirement after 32 years at the station.

He won't step down until the Summer, but viewers needed to know, because you know, it's February ratings.

Vanderzwaan made public his decision Sunday evening during a special edition of KSBW Action News 8, following the Super Bowl.

"My decision to retire this summer was not made in haste or taken lightly, but one that my wife and I, along with KSBW, have been working on for some time now," Vanderzwaan said. "I will miss the wonderful people I’ve worked with over the years here at KSBW 8, and I will miss telling our audience about the weather. I’m truly grateful to have served our viewers for so many years, but now it’s time for the next chapter for me and my family."

Why these anchors feel that they have to tell us about their retirement that is still months away, we have no clue?

Must be an ego thing.
