PA Anchor Tells Viewers He's Fighting Cancer

Longtime WJAC (Johnstown, PA) Anchor Marty Radovanic told viewers during last night's newscast that he has cancer.

He told viewers he began receiving treatments last week for marginal zone non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“Cancer picked the wrong guy to mess with,” Radovanic said.

He is WJAC’s managing editor. He also co-anchors the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts and is the main anchor for the 11 p.m. newscast Monday through Friday.

He classified his diagnosis as a “frightening, lonely moment,” but said he has a strong family, friends, work and community support system.

It’s “a little speed bump on the highway of life,” Radovanic said.

Nashville Anchor Leaving the Business

WKRN Anchor John Dwyer says that he is signing off from TV news and going to work for Non-Profit "Jobs for Tennessee Graduates".

Dwyer joined the station in 1996 as the Sports Director and then made the move over to news.

At WKRN, Dwyer had the strange anchor schedule of anchoring the Sunday edition of News 2 at 5 p.m. and News 2 at 10 p.m.  and then anchoring the Monday through Thursday editions of News 2 at 4 p.m. and News 2 at 4:30 p.m..

We're guessing in his new job, the hours will be much better.

Old Boyfriend Helped Walter's Land Shooter's Dad

Both George Stephanopoulos and Matt Lauer tried to land an interview with film director Peter Rodger, whose son Elliot is responsible for the shooting death of 6 people in Southern California.

But the interview went to the retired (for 10 minutes) Barbara Walters.

So how did Walters beat out Lauer, Stephanopoulos and others? It was thanks to a guy that Walters dated a longtime ago.

Peter Rodger has a longtime friend. Simon Astaire. In the ’60s Astaire’s English father Edgar dated Barbara. Knowing his father’s high regard for Barbara, the younger Astaire told the shooter’s father: “You can trust her. My father did. He always said if she gives her word she keeps it.”

ABC will air the interview in an hour long special on Friday night at 10PM.

CNBC Sees Huge Ratings Drop

While the stock market continues to climb into record territory, CNBC's ratings are in a market crash.

According to the latest Nielsen Media Research data, in the second quarter of 2014, CNBC business day viewership for all viewers just dropped to 162,000 - a new low, on par with Q2 of 1997!

The news is even worse for CNBC's star mouth Jim Cramer. The Mad Money host has to be mad about his ratings. Cramer's Mad Money show just had its lowest ever rated month in the 25-54 demo, and is about to have its second lowest rated month ever across total viewers.

In fact this past Friday, Mad Money had a laughable 2,000 viewers in the targeted 25-54 demo.

Keep that up and not only is Jim Cramer going to be mad, he's going to be really unhappy.

KTVU_FOX_2_Logo.png

A big station swap is going down on both coasts between Fox and Cox.

Cox is going to give up KTVU in the San Francisco market to Fox Television stations.

In return, Fox is going to give Cox their stations in Boston (WFXT) and throw in Memphis (WHBQ) as well.

“The addition of KTVU and KICU to our portfolio of owned-and-operated stations provides us with a compelling growth opportunity in a top-10 market,” CEO of Fox Television Stations Jack Abernethy said press release.

“This is the first time we have had a media presence in Boston and Memphis, and CMG is excited about the prospects that WFXT-TV and WHBQ-TV bring to our business,” Cox Media Group president Bill Hoffman said in a release.

We Call Bullshit on Hearst Study

Here's a shocker......

A study done by Hearst Television finds that Viewers trust local news more than any other media.

The study shows (prepared to be surprised) that  viewers purchase products they see advertised during newscasts.

Let's see here, a study down by a company that owns scores of local television stations reveals that people love and trust local TV stations.

What's next, a study by the tobacco industry finding that cigarettes are good for you?

Sorry, but when we put our bullshit meter on this story, the needle broke off.

O-Town Reporter Now Says She's Sorry

FTVLive FIRST told you about WOFL (Orlando) Reporter Jackie Orozco posting a selfie to her Instagram account from the scene of a double homicide. Orozco and a station Photographer were all smiles as the police where investigating the 2 murders.

Orozco posted the smiling selfie and wrote, "So why are we smiling in front of a crime scene? Because we work in TV News and it's my Friday!"

Well, on "her Monday", Orozco took to social media to say she was sorry:

She posted the photo on Instagram, but her apology was posted to Twitter. She has deleted her Instagram account.

Fox News Anchor Gregg Jarrett Arrest Video

Back in May FTVLive told you that Fox News Anchor Gregg Jarrett was busted by police at the Minneapolis airport.

Cops said that Police Jarrett appeared to be drunk  acted belligerent and refused to follow orders.

Now, video from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s police department has released surveillance footage that shows Jarrett getting into an argument with a helmet-wearing cop named Mark Dorsey.

After Jarrett protests his detention and calls Dorsey a “fucking stupid ass,” Dorsey approaches Jarrett, who stand ups and gets in Dorsey’s face. Dorsey then grabs the anchor, presses him up against a nearby wall, and slams him into the holding cell’s bench. It’s pretty rough stuff.

Let's go to the video:

It's Like She Never Left

When Barbara Walters said she was going to retire, not many believed that she could stay away from the limelight.

As FTVLive told you back on June 9th, Walters had agreed to interview Peter Rodger, the father of Isla Vista shooter Elliot Roger for ABC News.

Now, Walters is returning to 'The View' this week to promote her interview with Roger.

She will be on the show on Friday, just 6 weeks after her "last show" on The View when she said she was retiring.

Walters retirement capped one of the longest careers in television. It has been followed by one of the shortest retirements.

No Matt or Jeff at Couric's Wedding

katie_couric-1.jpg

As FTVLive told you, Yahoo Global Anchor Katie Couric got married over the weekend at her home in the Hamptons.

But, her former Co-Anchor and boss at the Today Show were not on the guest list.

Both Matt Lauer and Jeff Zucker did not attend Couric's wedding despite both being in the area at the time.

While Couric was getting hitched Lauer and Zucker were at a party thrown by lawyer Gerald Lefcourt and his wife Robin at their home in nearby Bridgehampton.

Page Six says that Couric's  intimate ceremony was attended by just 50 family members and close friends.

Which, we are guessing Matt and Jeff no longer are.

Nexstar Makes More Master Control Cuts

A week ago, FTVLive FIRST told you that 10 people are going to get the ax at WJET in Erie, PA. Word is the Nexstar station is laying off their entire staff of Master Control Operators in August.

In follow up reports, we told you to expect other Nexstar stations to follow suit.

Sources tell FTVLive that the same scene played out at WTVO/WQRF in Rockford, IL a few weeks back.

The staff was told that Operations will be hubbed out of Memphis starting sometime in late August or early September.

Word is 8 to 10  people are affected by the move.
