Sochi Wolf Video is a Hoax

Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 6.01.03 AM.png

Many in the media fell for the Olympic luger that cried wolf.

Luger Kate Hansen posted a video on YouTube that purportedly showed a wolf on the prowl in a Sochi Olympic dorm.

The video went viral and was featured on a number of newscasts.

But, it turns out the video was a hoax and you can blame Jimmy Kimmel once again.

Reports claim the fake video was another Kimmel prank and as you know he has done it before.

Kimmel was responsible for tweaking woman who was set on fire after her “roommate” opened a door and sent her crashing into a glass table with lighted candles.

If you haven't seen the Wolf of Sochi you can watch it here.

Letterman Trying to Land Leno

article-leno-graphic-0221.jpg

Word is that David Letterman is trying to get Jay Leno to come on his show to steal some of Jimmy Fallon's thunder.

“There’s been quiet talk behind the scenes for months that Dave will have Jay Leno on as a guest,” one insider said. “(Letterman’s) producers waited until Fallon debuted (on ‘Tonight’), give him space out of respect, but are now ready to pull out all the stops.”

Leno and Letterman were once close pals who had a famous falling out when Leno won the coveted “Tonight Show” hosting spot. But the rivals recently had a 20 minute phone chat to smooth over any lingering anger, the source said.

Letterman initiated the call in hopes of burying the hatchet after Leno, not him, was tapped in 1992 by NBC to succeed Johnny Carson — a feud so monumental, it was turned into the book and movie “The Late Shift.”

Letterman ended up with CBS’ “Late Show” and fought Leno in the ratings for two decades.

Storage Wars for Former Philly Anchor's Stuff

storagecenter6011.jpg

Do you have a few extra dollars to spend?

You might want to head to Philadelphia.

Philly.com writes that the contents of two storage units in Philadelphia rented by former sports television anchor Don Tollefson will be put up for auction Monday morning and the contents could be hotly contested.

As in the cable series Storage Wars, anyone can bid on Tollefson's belongings at 11:30 a.m. at the Public Storage facility at 456 N. Columbus Blvd.  A Ford Explorer kept there by Tollefson is also up for bid.

An employee at the facility confirmed the two units belong to Tollefson, who was arrested this week on charges he allegedly bilked more than 100 people out of at least $100,000 in a vacation scheme during the last few years. Tollefson had worked as a sportscaster at Philly's FOX and ABC news affiliates for 30 years.

"He's actually a very nice man," said the employee, who declined to give a name, but noted that Tollefson has tried to pay off his debts on the units. Tollefson does have until just before the auction begins Monday morning to pay off his debt and keep ownership of his storage units' contents.

Sometimes you go to the news and sometimes the news comes to you.

Mike McGuff says there were some scary moments at the KTRK studios this morning as gunshots were fired into the station's parking lot. There were no reports of injuries.

A Houston Police Department spokesperson told mikemcguff.com it happened around 5:40am. Police say a witness saw a person point and fire a weapon into the parking lot.

Five vehicles in the parking lot were damaged as a result with several having windows shot out.

At least some of the event was captured on surveillance cameras. A police investigation is underway.

Hannity Caught with his Hand in the Tea Pot (Updated)

Hannity 415.jpg

Fox News Anchor Sean Hannity has been caught with his hand in the tea pot.

HuffPo writes that Hannity solicited donations for the Tea Party Patriots in a fundraising email sent Wednesday morning by the conservative organization.

"Please make a generous contribution of $15, $25, $50, or whatever you can afford toTea Party Patriots' 5 Years for Freedom $1.2 million-dollar money bomb," Hannity wrote, noting that Feb. 27 is the fifth anniversary of the tea party movement.

It's no secret that Hannity's a conservative tea party supporter who offers political opinions each day on Fox News and on the radio. And Fox News has heavily promoted the tea party movement from its inception.

But Fox News in the past has drawn a line between a host expressing support for a political group or cause and actively helping to raise money on a group's behalf -- and on at least one occasion has specifically maintained that distinction for Hannity and the tea party movement.

In 2010, network executives ordered Hannity to return to New York after learning he'd been slated to star at a Cincinnati tea party fundraiser that would have aired on his primetime show.

A Fox News spokeswoman did not immediately respond with comment on the network's current policy regarding hosts' participation in political fundraising efforts.

Updated: It should be noted that that Hannity's Tea party Patriots is purely with his radio show and nothing to do with FNC and his TV show.

CNN's Ratings Take a Dive Off the Pier(s)

Piers Morgan’s ratings hit rock bottom this week.

On Tuesday, Morgan's 9PM show on CNN had its second worst result ever in the all important adults 25-43 news demographic. With a total audience of 270,000 watching, Piers Morgan Live drew a mere 50,000 viewers in the demo.

The only time the stumbling CNN show has fared that poorly since its January 17, 2011 launch was on May 15, 2012.

Then the show, then known as Piers Morgan Tonight, pulled in a just 39,000 viewers in the demo. In terms of overall viewers, February 18 was the ninth worst Morgan’s talk show has done. The all-time viewership low for Piers Morgan Live was on February 7 this year when just 235,000 tuned in.

Morgan’s cable news rivals The Kelly File on Fox News Channel and The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC did far better. The 9PM shows got 354,000 and 227,000 in the demo respectively and 2.068 million and 906,000 total viewers.

The deathwatch for Pier's at 9PM has just been kicked up another notch.

Longtime SoCal Anchor Busted for DUI

Former KCBS Anchor Bree Walker was busted by Anaheim police on suspicion of driving drunk.

KNBC says that Walker, a radio talk show host, actress, and disability-rights activist, was taken into custody after a traffic stop for a red-light violation at 12:30 a.m. near South Beach Boulevard and West Ball Road, said Lt. Tim Schmidt, a spokesman with the Anaheim Police Department.

She failed a field sobriety test after police smelled what they believed to be alcohol and noticed she appeared "disheveled," Schmidt said.

Walker, 61, worked as a news anchor and reporter in San Diego, New York City, and Los Angeles.

Walker, of Venice, inherited ectrodactyly, a rare genetic condition, resulting in missing fingers and toes and syndactyly resulting in fingers and toes being fused together.

Established and well into her career at the ABC affiliate KGTV Channel 10 in San Diego, Walker decided to go public with her ectrodactyly after previously keeping her hands hidden inside a pair of glove-like prosthetic hands.

She went into rehab for alcohol dependency in 2007, according to news reports.

Jury Deliberates Former NY Anchor's Fate

It's in the hands of the Jury now.

APP.com says that a jury in northern New Jersey is deliberating the fate of a New York City television reporter charged with sexual assault on a child.

Charles Leaf’s trial began last month in Hackensack. The former WNYW Fox 5 reporter was arrested in 2010 and charged with several offenses including aggravated sexual assault on a 4-year-old girl at his home. He’s also charged with possession of child pornography.

Jurors began deliberating Yesterday. The girl testified during the trial and said her baby sitter coached her into making the allegations. Leaf also testified and denied the charges.

The aggravated sexual assault charge carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

Leaf’s father-in-law testified that he, and not Leaf, viewed child pornography on Leaf’s computer.

Dildo Company Wants Barbara Walters

Barbara-Walters.png

Barbara Walters raised some eyebrows on "The View" this week when she said that she still uses a vibrator at age 84  (she later said she was kidding).

Now a company called Phallix that makes vibrators wants Walters to partner with them and help pitch their newest the"Babs" line -- a self-pleasuring device made of special, smooth glass developed by NASA eggheads.

This ain't your grandma's vibrator. Well, actually it is. It's designed to go especially slow, for the 60 and over crowd.

We will predict that Walters will take a pass on this new venture.

Longtime Dallas Anchor Signing Off, Replacement Named

Gloria Campos, one of Dallas-Fort Worth’s best known news anchors, announced on Twitter on Wednesday that she’s retiring after 30 years with WFAA.

“I signed my last contract specifically to end this way,” Campos, 59, said in a phone interview. “They knew I wanted to retire, and I’ve been planning this for probably five years. It finally came to the point where I don’t need to do this. They’ve been very accommodating, and I get to go out on top, on my own terms.”

Campos has been with WFAA since September 1984, when she started as an anchor -- the first featured Hispanic anchor in the DFW market. Before that, she spent nine years at KGBT-TV in Harlingen, her hometown, which was her only other broadcasting job. She started there a week after graduated from Southwest Texas State University in 1976.

“I’ve been working since I was like 15 years old,” said Campos. “In probably one of the most stressful jobs you can have, working in the news business. I’m ready to take it easy for a while.”

“I won’t miss the bad news,” Campos said. “I always thought that I would get jaded or callous, and that would tell me, when I stopped being touched or moved by the news, that it was time to go. But it’s been the exact opposite. It’s taken its toll, all the bad news that I’ve had to share with people. So I’ve tried really hard to deliver the bad news in a compassionate way.”

Carolyn Mungo, WFAA’s executive news director, praised Campos in a memo to staffers announcing the anchor’s retirement.

“Gloria Campos IS WFAA,” Mungo wrote. “She is part of the fabric of this newsroom. Her work has inspired so many, one paragraph does not do it justice.”

Campos’ departure is part of a big on-air shakeup at Channel 8, according to Mungo’s memo. These are some of the other changes:

Cynthia Izaguire who has anchored morning show News 8 Daybreak since 2008, will move to the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts, co-anchoring with John McCaa, beginning March 10.
