Congressman Threatens NY Reporter

As if members of Congress need to do anymore to be disliked, Congressman Michael Grimm, a Republican from Staten Island, was caught on camera threatening a NY1 reporter with physical violence following Tuesday night's State of the Union address.

The verbal confrontation between Grimm and  NY1 political correspondent Michael Scotto came during a brief interview discussing President Barack Obama's annual speech, which the GOP congressman labeled 'divisive.'

Scotto then attempted to question Grimm about the federal investigation into his 2010 campaign fundraising, but the politician immediately cut the reporter off, refusing to answer any further questions.

After the interview, Grimm confronted a startled-looking Scotto.

Although the audio in the clip that captured the exchange is very low, a transcript provided by NY1 shows that at one point Grimm said to Scott: 'Let me be clear to you, you ever do that to me again I'll throw you off this fucking balcony.’

Talk About Team Smotherage

Yesterday the polar vortex, winter storm hemorrhoid (or whatever the Weather Channel is calling this one) made it's way into the deep south.

Folks in Atlanta panicked when a dusting of snow blanketed the area as people in the Northeast just looked to Atlanta and chuckled.

But no one panicked and sensationalized the snow more than WSB in Atlanta. The station had full blown team smotherage of the winter weather.

Checkout this screen grab showing that they had 14 Reporters assigned to cover the snow.

Are you F'ing kidding me?!

Idiot takes a Run at The American Bald Ego

Jim Cantore AKA The American Bald Ego was doing a live shot for the Weather Channel (for you DirecTV customers, the Weather Channel is a station that sometimes does weather coverage, but often it just has reality shows) in Charleston.

While going live, some idiot thought it would be wise to run into Cantore's live shot. Now, everyone should know, you NEVER try and take away face time from Jim Cantore. EVER!

So The American Bald Ego kneed the guy in the nuts.

Here's to you Bald Ego, here's to you:

Local Stations Flock to Sochi

Local stations (mostly NBC affiliates) are sending crews to Sochi to cover the Olympics.

TVNewsCheck says that despite terrorist threats putting Olympics-goers on edge, TV station groups say they are sticking to plans to send some of their biggest contingents ever to the winter games in Sochi, Russia.

About 75 local broadcasters representing mostly NBC affiliates around the country are geared up to go to the games, which will air on NBC Feb. 7-23, says Bob Horner, president of NBC News Channel, which is coordinating the activity.

Large broadcast groups with histories covering Olympics make up the bulk of the local TV delegation. The NBC Owned Television Stations are sending 25 anchors, reporters and producers. Gannett Broadcasting will have 20 in Sochi, including several from newly acquired Belo stations. And Hearst is sending nine. In each case, the contingents are larger than ever before.

Others include Nexstar, which will be going to the Olympics for the first time. The group will be sending two anchors — one from WBRE in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the other from KNWA in Fayetteville, Ark. Schurz’s NBC affiliate KTUU in Anchorage, Alaska is sending someone. So are two Cordillera Communications-owned stations, KOAA Colorado Springs and KVOA Tucson, Ariz., Horner says.

Another 25 or so NBC News Channel staffers — whose duties include producing stories for affiliates — are also scheduled to make the trip.

“Our newsrooms have a commitment to bring that story home,” says Susan Tully, VP of news at NBC-owned KXAS Dallas-Fort Worth, who is coordinating coverage for all 10 of the O&Os. “We just know the value of local content from the games.”

Horner says ensuring the safety of broadcasters has been a primary component of NBC’s larger plans from the get-go and the recent threats do not necessarily come as a surprise.

“I would just say that I don’t believe that any of these concerns are new. It’s a complicated part of the world and a complicated part of Russia,” Horner says. “We have been planning for a long time.”

"I will definitely miss KGUN 9 and Tucson," Benito told mikemcguff.com. "I've made lifelong friends here and got a chance to tell amazing stories in Arizona. It all helped me get ready to take this next step. Tucson will always be a very special place for me."

It's  a homecoming for Benito since he is originally from Houston.

"There's really no place like home and getting to report in my hometown is a dream come true," Benito told McGuff. "Can't wait to get back to Houston to get started!"

Before KGUN, Benito worked as a weekend anchor/reporter for Fox 11 KMSB in Tucson and a reporter at WLNS in Lansing, Michigan.

OH MY GOD! Not You GMA?!

tim-tebow-300.jpg

You would expect a stunt like this from the gang at the Today Show, but this time it's Good Morning America.

The number 1 morning show is going to let Tim Tebow co-host the show on Friday morning.

As FTVLive told you, Tebow signed a deal with sister network ESPN and it appears that the ABC synergy machine is cranking up to bring Tebow to GMA.

Tebow, who flamed out as an NFL Quarterback will be on hand Friday to guest-host and take on the topics of the day, including the Super Bowl.

Which is the closet Tebow will ever get to the Super Bowl.

The Ratings News Goes from Bad to Worse for CNN

piers_morgan_1_27.jpg

If Jeff Zucker is going to shake up CNN's prime time like he promised, he better start now, before CNN doesn't have any viewers left.

With January wrapping up, it's about to go down as CNN's third lowest month on record among total viewers.

Its average daily haul managed to slip below even sister net HLN in the key news demographic of adults 25-54.

And it should be pointed out, this has been a month record cold temperatures across much of the county, giving viewers nothing more to do than watch TV.

How bad has it gotten for Zucker's CNN? Low rated CNBC is running repeats of ABC's Shark Tank a couple of times a week.  Those reruns averaged 276,000 viewers in the advertiser-friendly adults 25-54. That was enough to make Shark Tank the No. 6 program across all of cable news for the month, topping everything on CNN.

Ouch!

NBC Anchor Sexting NBC Executive

0620-sexting_full_600.jpg

The NY Daily News writes quite a titillating story, but stop well short of naming names.

The Daily News writes that a secret, steamy relationship between one of NBC’s best-known on-air personalities and a network executive has been put on ice because the duo fear their naughty behavior will be exposed by eavesdropping Russian agents at the Olympics.

Confidenti@l has learned exclusively that the exec, who admits to a 20-year-long, on-and-off-again shagfest turned sexting bonanza, is frustrated the fun will be on hiatus as long as one of them — we won’t say who — is covering the Games.

“Everything is being monitored and any little secrets or fun staffers have is at risk of being exposed,” says a well-placed insider.

NBC’s Olympic staff has been warned in a memo to watch what they email and text during the games, because Russian federal law allows for “the monitoring, retention and analysis of all data that traverses Russian communication networks, including Internet browsing, email messages, telephone calls and fax transmissions.”

Now That's Hard Hitting Journalism

ross-dati.jpg

Let's hope the guy was an NBC viewer.

ABC correspondent Brian Ross smashed his BMW into a jaywalking pedestrian outside the network’s studios on the Upper West Side Sunday evening, authorities said.

The man he hit, a 52-year-old former taxi driver from Queens, suffered a broken left arm, bruises and back pain.

“I said, ‘I know this guy, I’ve seen his face!’ ” injured ex-hack Roman Dati told NY The Post on Monday of the journalist who appears on such programs as “20/20” and “Good Morning America.”

Cops said Ross, 65, was turning left from 67th Street onto Columbus Avenue at around 6 p.m. when Dati stepped into the path of his black 2013 7 Series Beemer.

Ross had the right of way, turning with the light, when he struck Dati, law-enforcement sources said. There were no drugs or alcohol involved, police said, and no summonses or charges were filed.

Ross said the incident occurred while he was “slowly” pulling up to his parking space.

“As this happened right in front of WABC, I was able to take [Dati] inside our lobby and waited with him until the police and EMTs arrived, who then put his arm in a sling and took him to the hospital,” Ross said in a statement through an ABC rep.

“My only concern was to ensure the gentleman was OK and treated immediately.”

ABC spokesman Jeffrey Schneider insisted that Dati came “out of nowhere.”

“He stepped off the curb, put his hand onto Brian’s hood and pushed himself backwards,” Schneider said. “He fell down and hurt his arm.”

Dati said an apologetic Ross tried to shake his hand and wish him well while he was sitting in the ambulance waiting to be carted off to the hospital.
