Crossing the Street in Evansville

After spending 33 years at WTVW/WEHT, Anchor Randy Moore is crossing the street to WFIE.

But he'll have to sit out a one year non-compete before viewers will see him on the air.

“As an Evansville native, I grew up with WFIE,” Moore, 55, said. “Even as a competitor, I always admired and respected the work of Channel 14."

Moore’s run at WTVW started in 1980, when he joined the then-ABC affiliate as a reporter. He later was the station’s sports director and evening news anchor, when it was a Fox affiliate. Among his many co-anchors at WTVW was Jackie Monroe, now with WFIE. The pair worked together for five years.

Moore’s role changed in 2011, with the ownership merger of WTVW and WEHT. It pushed Moore’s evening news team to early morning airtime.

“It was tough,” Moore said. “I had done evenings for 31 years. But I totally understood the wisdom, or at least the strategy, behind the plan, which was to take essentially one ‘A’ team, leave it intact, and put it on in the morning. I’m really proud of what we did in the mornings for two years at 25 and 7. The people I worked with were really good. I had worked with (WTVW meteorologist) Ron Rhodes for 16 and now 18 years. I’m going to miss him. We had a really good team.

“But ultimately this opportunity came up to do something else, and I took the opportunity to do that.”

Specifics of Moore’s on-air duties in 2015 at WFIE have not been announced. Moore said during the coming year, he will “try to get acclimated with their culture, what is it they’re wanting to accomplish. Then once I get dialed in on that, I can bring what I have to offer with my 33 years of experience, to try to advance the ball. But first of all, I’ll probably spend a lot of time just shadowing their people, see what their strategy is, what their playbook looks like.”

Brian Greif, general manager of KRON San Francisco, has decided to resign from the station, following weeks of consulting with doctors.

Greif, 53, who has worked in local television for more than 30 years, told TVNewsCheck that he will need extended recovery time and physical therapy for at least three months, following an unsuccessful back surgery this past summer. He says a second surgery could be necessary if the rest and therapy prove ineffective.

“KRON is a very special place and deserves a full-time manager,” Greif wrote in a memo to staff before Christmas.

A Media General spokesperson says a GM replacement hasn’t been made at the news-heavy station.

Greif, who points to helping build the Newsplex at WSVN Miami and developing the video journalist system at KRON as career highlights, remains determined not to call it a career.

“I’m not ready to stop working,” he says. “But right now, I still need help with the day-to-day activities.

Jacksonville Cox Station Hires New ND

action-news-jacksonville.png

WTEV/WAWS in Jacksonville has been without a News Director since they parted ways with Mike McCormick. after the November book.

Word now is that the Cox station has hired a new ND, but they aren't telling the staff who it is just yet.

FTVLive tipped you off a few weeks ago that a News Director from Austin had come in and picked the job.

FTVLive called the WTEV and news staff did not even know that someone had been hired.

Applicants that applied for job, received emails from GM Jim Zerwekh saying that the job was filled.

We're guessing that the staff will find out that someone was hired early next week.

Stay tuned....

NBC: No Olympics for Ann Curry

ann-curry-mad-nbc.jpg

NBC's Olympic coverage is normally all hands on deck for the Peacock. With NBC broadcasting so many hours, across so many platforms, just about every NBC employee is expected to have something to do with the network's Olympic coverage.

Expect for Ann Curry.

Word is that NBC is scrubbing Curry from any Olympic coverage as she works the final days of her contract before being kicked to the curb.

The Today Show has started to recover some of their lost ratings and the Today staff will be featured in the coverage from Sochi.

Many inside NBC think that with the help of the Olympics the Today Show will win the February ratings.

As for Ann Curry? She'll have to watch the Olympic Games on TV, just like the rest of us.

TIMBER!!!!!

Yesterday, FTVLive showed you the video of KUTV feature reporter Brooke Graham passing out in the middle of a live shot.

The video is funny as hell, but it was one of those that you feel bad laughing at someone else's misfortune.

Well, Graham herself says go ahead and laugh, she did.

"I have laughed many times watching this video so don't feel bad if it makes you giggle," Graham told viewers. "I feel like someone should dub [Pitbull ft.] Keisha 'Timber' over it and play the fall in slow motion."

The impressive thing, is she faints, wakes up and continues the interview.

Graham wrote on her blog "After I went down I sat up and had no idea how long I had been out but saw the camera pointed at my face and decided to keep on talking."

Damn! Now that's a Reporter!

Here's the video again in case you haven't seen it, or want to laugh with no guilt this time.

When I announce that I'm dating someone, the First Lady doesn't tweet about it.

Then again, I'm not Robin Roberts.

Michelle Obama tweeted he support for Robin Roberts after the "Good Morning America" news anchor's first public acknowledgement of her 10-year, same-sex relationship with massage therapist Amber Laign.

The first lady wrote Monday on Twitter: "I am so happy for you and Amber! You continue to make us all proud."
