Charges Dropped In Twitter "Threat" Against News Anchor

When WPEC (West Palm Beach) Anchor John Discepolo sent out a Tweet that read:

Viewer Martin Pierro joked with the anchor by tweeting back:

Screen Shot 2013-12-26 at 5.56.05 AM.png

iscepolo didn't find the joke funny and Pierro was arrested and changed with "with intimidation through a written threat to kill or injure."

Many thought that the Anchor was way too thin skinned and needed to lighten up a bit.

Well it appears that Pierro got a nice Christmas present when he got a call from his lawyer.  “I received a call from my attorney,” said Pierro. “Trust me, when a lawyer calls, your heart tends to sink a bit. So considering all that is going on it’s fair to say that I was worried. I asked her how she was doing, she said fine ‘but not as good as you.’

“I immediately knew what she was getting at – she told me that I was going to have a Merry Christmas after all. She informed me that the charges against me had been dropped. I was nothing short of ecstatic.”

Pierro had heard rumblings the charges were going to be dismissed, but the call from his attorney was the first official confirmation.

Report: Lauer wants Curry the Hell out of NBC

Screen Shot 2013-12-26 at 5.09.13 AM.png

Sources tell FTVLive that it is a very good bet that ANN Curry will be gone from NBC News when her contract comes up.

And if you believe the National Enquirer, Matt Lauer is doing his best to make sure that happens.

The tabloid writes that Lauer has a bitter message for former co-host Ann Curry: Good riddance!

Sources say a long-running feud between the morning show stars has exploded again as Ann’s NBC contract comes up for renewal, and Matt’s doing his best to see that Ann – an NBC special correspondent – doesn’t sign it.

Lauer considers working with Curry “the worst experience of his professional life,” a source revealed, and that her weepy response to being ousted from “Today” was somehow “her ploy to try to ruin him.”

Curry, 57, can opt out of her current $12 million-per-year NBC correspondent deal early next year, and sources say Lauer, 56, “is pushing for the network to lowball Ann so badly that she has no choice but to leave,” the source said.

Curry knew Matt was opposed to her being hired as his co-host, and claims it’s Lauer’s attitude that torpedoed her career on “Today,” said a close pal.

“Ann worked on the ‘Today’ news desk for 14 years before she replaced Meredith Vieira as co-host in June 2011,” the source noted.

“In all those years, Matt barely even acknowledged Ann when the cameras weren’t on them.

“Ann bent over backward to try and develop a relationship with him. She couldn’t even count the number of lunch dates that Matt blew off.

“So if Ann makes Matt uncomfortable by staying at NBC, she feels it’s just payback for the way he treated her.”

Stay tuned....

Not Coming Back

Jenna_Kooi_mug.jpg

There has been a big turnover of talent this past year in the Indianapolis market and it's continuing right up until the end.

The latest to leave is WRTV News Anchor Jenna Kooi.

Kooi had been out on maternity leave over the last several weeks and has decided not to return, according to the station. She joined the ABC affiliate in early 2012 as co-anchor of the 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts with Todd Connor.

Previously, she had worked at WXIN-TV Channel 59, then as Jenna Maloney.

“We have not yet announced a replacement for Jenna,” said WRTV News Director Terri Cope-Walton.

Much Longer Name.... But the Still the Same

ny126tvf-1-web.jpg

Loyal viewers of New York's cable news channel NY1 were worried when the channel decided to change their name and get a new look.

But, the NY Daily News says despite those changes, it's basically the same.

The News writes that despite a seven-figure redesign and a nine-syllable name change to Time Warner Cable News NY1, the city's all-news channel hasn’t changed a wink.

“The proof of the pudding is you turn the TV on and what you see is what you saw before,” the channel’s head honcho, Steve Paulus, tells the Daily News.

Aside from new graphics by L.A.-based company Troika, a Time Warner logo and updated theme music by Craig Cleek, the biggest gripe among viewers was the smaller size of the time and temperature display, which was changed after a day.

At the hyperlocal cable channel's Chelsea Market studio, anchors do their own hair, makeup and wardrobe before giving New Yorkers a wakeup call at 5 a.m. during “News All Morning.”

Each half hour begins with the “NY1 Minute” news rundown, and at 7:41 a.m., you’ll still find anchor Pat Kiernan, now almost a city institution, reading the morning headlines during “In the Papers” or bantering with business anchor Annika Pergament.

“NY1 viewers are very possessive of our tradition and our place in the community, so some of them don’t react well to change, but overall I think it’s been well received,” says Kiernan.

Sweeping Up in Des Moines

KCCI_logo.png

The November book has long been over, but sweeps numbers continue to trickle in from the smaller markets.

Checking in now is Des Moines and the big winner is KCCi.

KCCI swept every time period this November.

In November 2012, WHO-TV scored a big victory in the ratings by winning the 6 p.m. newscast for the first time in years. But not this year.

Among all households, KCCI scored a 36 share at 6 p.m. vs. WHOs 26 share. Last year, WHO had a 29 share vs. KCCIs 28. The share indicates what percentage of television sets in use were tuned to the program.

Among the coveted 25- to 54-year-old demographic, KCCI won at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. WHO won in the mornings and noon.

Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 8.44.10 AM.png

Merry Christmas everyone and it's time to hand out another FTVLive Slammy Award.

In the category of "Biggest Screw up of the year award" it wasn't even a tight race.

Step up John King and get your Slammy Award.

While covering the Boston Bombings, King thought being first was more important than being right. He reported that cops had arrested a "dark skinned male" when in fact that was not the case.

Making John the King of all Slammy award winners.

Let's go to the video:

A Christmas Poem from FTVLive

christmas_eve.jpg

It was the night before Christmas at NBC.
David Gregory is wondering "what will happen to me?"

Over at Fox News.... the feeling's just right.
Santa will soon be here.... and damn it he's white.

Matt Lauer was spotted buying gifts in a hurry....
Not a single one.... was for Ann Curry.

Out on the street....is Martin Bashir...
At least he didn't yell out... "you damn Fucking Queer!"

Over at ABC there is so much glee...
No one is happier.... than Ginger Zee.

At local stations they hang the stockings with care...
They hope their station doesn't get bought by Sinclair.

Santa is coming...with his majestic reindeer.
One that's named Kreamer.... wants the fuck out of here.

The New Day gang wants some toys or a sucker....
They will get neither....says their boss Zucker.

So now that we look to 2014...
Let's hope that Nancy Grace.... won't be so mean.

We look to the Feb book and the next ratings fight....
But for now...let's just relax and have a good night.

Happy Holidays!!!

We Told you

deborah_turness.jpg

Back on November 4th, FTVLive wrote how the staff was looking sideways at NBC News Boss Deborah Turness.

We wrote that just about everyone that FTVLive talked to says that Turness is much more of a hands on manager than anyone in the past.

But some complain that she is too hands on and needs to back off a bit.

Turness can be found in the control room often when one of NBC's news programs are on the air. Sources tell FTVLive that she will often shout out instructions and some Producers feel like she is trying to do their job for them.

Now the NY Post says that Turness is turning her attention to her troubled Sunday talk show, “Meet the Press” — asking staff to write a mission statement and explain what works and what doesn’t, The Post has learned.

Turness has been reviewing individual shows one by one with the aim of having staff focus more clearly on winning the ratings wars, sources said.

The review has sparked talk of what the future holds for the 66-year-old show and its host, David Gregory.

With “Meet the Press” slipping in the ratings, WME’s Ari Emanuel has been making a serious pitch for his clients, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” to take over, several sources said.

A rep for the two hosts wasn’t immediately reachable for comment.

Turness could find a cure for the show’s blues by raiding ABC News’ “Good Morning America” host, George Stephanopoulos, whose contract expires in January, some TV insiders said.

The former Bill Clinton adviser also hosts Sunday’s “This Week.”

While whispers bounce around inside the Beltway about changes coming to “Meet the Press,” NBC News, through a spokesman, insists “there are absolutely no plans” to make a change.

Might Want to Cross that Job off the List

brandon_rudat_headshot.jpg

Back on December 12th, FTVLive told you that former Atlanta Anchor Brandon Rudat had interviewed for a Anchor job at KTVK in Phoenix.

Rudat Tweeted about the interview and said that he was trusting God to help land him the job.

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 10.20.15 AM.png

Given the fact that he was let go from Meredith owned WGCL in Atlanta and Meredith just purchased KTVK,  we're guessing that the deal might be off.

God works in mysterious ways.

The FTVLive Slammy Awards - Now that's Short

Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 8.44.10 AM.png

Time to hand out another FTVLive Slammy Award.

This Slammy goes out in the category for "The Shortest TV News Career of 2013".

There were people hired at stations that didn't last more than a few months, some only made it weeks....... and than there's AJ Clemente.

Clemente was shit canned after just one newscast after opening his TV career by muttering the words "fucking shit" as his first words ever on air.

But forget the swear words that AJ started the newscast with, just listen to how he answers the question when his co-anchor asks "Tell us about yourself AJ?"

Now you know why AJ is tending bar. But at least he now as a Slammy Award!

Anchor Robbed while on Air and never Knew It

MW-BR494_bitcoi_MG_20131223160143.jpg

An Anchor was robbed on air and never even knew it.

Entrepreneur writes that  Bloomberg TV's Matt Miller is currently experiencing the "12 Days Of Bitcoin," a series for the business news television station.

On Friday, Miller learned an important lesson. It was an experience that everyone should remember before they start moving their money into the digital currency.

While on air Miller surprised Bloomberg anchors Adam Johnson and Trish Regan each with $20 worth of Bitcoin.

But as Johnson received the paper gift, he briefly exposed the QR code. This act was effectively like sharing a bank account and PIN number.

Immediately, someone lifted the QR code and stole the $20.

This morning, Miller reported that he had engaged the thief -- someone who goes by "milkywaymasta" -- on Reddit.

Here's "milkywaymasta": I was watching bloomberg where they are doing the "12 days of bit coin". The guy that is hosting the series gave bitcoin gift certificates to the other two hosts. One of them opens up the certificate to reveal QR code of the private key. They then proceeded to show a closeup of the QR code in glorious HD for about 10 seconds. Hilarious.

I took it, it was only $20 worth. It was exhilarating nevertheless. I'll send it back once Matt gives me a new address since someone else can sweep the old one. A segment on Bitcoin security and the importance of NOT showing the private key and also BIP0038 (Password Encrypted Private Keys) Wallets will be more than enough compensation. Blockchain confirmation and Public key of where i sent the bitcoin.

Miller, however, is done with this person. Here's Miller: "so freaking classic but also a GREAT lesson in bitcoin security! you can keep the $20 -- well earned."

As long as there are no laws in place for such thefts, one could probably argue that the money was indeed "earned."

Regardless, a great lesson.

Moving on Up to Houston

jacquelinecrea.jpg

Jacqueline Crea jumps 81 markets from weekend anchor at El Paso's KTSM to Houston's KHOU 11 as a reporter.

"I am thrilled and cannot wait to start," Crea posted on Twitter.

According to her bio, Crea was born in Los Angeles and graduated from the University of California in San Diego. Instead of getting an agent at that time, Crea actually worked for one at Creative Artists Agency (CAA). She also worked as a freelance writer at KNSD San Diego before heading to KTSM.

She credits watching local news as a child with creating her passion for journalism.

Crea left KTSM last Tuesday and starts at KHOU in mid-January.

60 Days and Counting....

Screen Shot 2013-12-23 at 8.28.23 AM.png

We have reached a milestone here at FTVLive.com.

60 days ago we talked to KNBC spokesperson Terri Rosales Hernandez and asked her to confirm our story that KNBC Anchor Lucy Noland was off the 6PM newscast.

Rosales Hernandez PROMISED to call us back in "two minutes."

Since that promise, Noland has left KNBC all together (which by the way was also FIRST reported by FTVLive), and we still haven't heard from the PR spokeswoman.

The clock has now reached 60 days.

Will she call before Christmas? News Years? The 4th of July?

We'll let you know when she gets back to us.

Give us "two minutes."

The clock continues to click away on the lower right side of every page on FTVLive.
