Hmmmmm Very Interesting

Earlier this week, FTVLive reported that Fox News had reached a settlement with former PR head at the network, Brian Lewis.

Word is that FNC shelled out as much as $8 million dollars to keep Lewis quiet.

It was a big story to say the least. Anytime a news orginazation has to pay off one of their own to keep quiet, it's a story that deserves some attention.

And while many news outlets and blogs covered the story, there was one blog that did didn't touch the story. Some say it was out of fear.

Fox Anchor Reveals She Has No Fingerprints

gretchen-carlson.jpeg

Fox News Anchor Gretchen Carlson, host of Real Story told viewers that that she recently learned she didn’t have fingerprints.

It appears that after assembling Carlson and sending her out into the world, Fox News Boss forgot to add fingerprints to his Carlson creation. Ok...we're kidding...maybe.

Carlson said that she was at the airport applying for an expedited travel security program, Carlson had to give her fingerprints. But the technology the agency was using to take them wouldn’t pick up a print.

According to Carlson, on a scale from 1 to 20, 20 being no fingerprint at all, her prints ranked in at 19.

“What happened to me?” Carlson asked.

The Blaze writes that Nurse practitioner Erin Tolbert explained to Carlson that there are many ways someone could lose or wear down their fingerprints. One option includes repeated use of fingers, Tolbert said, pointing to Carlson’s stack of papers. Another cause is medications, like chemotherapy.

Fox News’ Clayton Morris told Carlson he thinks scanning technology needs to be that much better to work with these more worn down fingerprints.

“The iPhone 5S is probably the best implementation of this technology yet,” Morris said.

In the mean time, Carlson joked about the benefit of her poor fingerprint quality.

“I told the woman, ‘oh, I can become a burglar now,’” she said, recalling what she told the airport agent.

Police Investigate Fargo News Reporter

KVLY in Fargo did the old "how secure are our schools" story and now the cops are looking into whether KVLY Reporter Mellaney Moore broke the law?

Moorhead police are investigating whether Moore broke Minnesota law during a recent visit to a Moorhead school.

The investigation stemmed from a news story about school security on KVLY. Police are looking into whether trespass laws were broken when the Moore entered a school with a hidden camera without checking in as a visitor.

Moore also entered a school in Fargo.

Police Lt. Joel Vettel says an investigation has not been opened. But Vettel says discussions about the incident have taken place with school officials and the city attorney.

KVLY News Director Ike Walker said the story was aired to help figure out why there are security issues with area schools.

Here's the video of the story:

Drinks are on Matt

lauer.jpg

NBC's Today Show had their Holiday party at swank Gallery at Dream Downtown in New York yesterday.

And while the drinks were flowing, no one had to worry about paying the bar tab.

Matt Lauer picked up the bill for the booze. Which is very impressive considering that Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb were at the party.

Page Six says that the entire crew including Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, Natalie Morales, Willie Geist, Gifford and Kotb — partied hard at the Chelsea hot spot beginning at 11:30 a.m., a half-hour after their show finished.

The bash included “Liquid Sunrise” cocktails and dancing to music by DJ Journey.

“Today” executive producer Don Nash told the crowd: “Please give a big thanks to Matt Lauer — his generosity is the reason we are all celebrating at this party.”

Nash also toasted the show’s effort to close the ratings gap with ABC’s “Good Morning America” this year, saying, “We are on our way back and that’s because of all of you.”

We're guessing that Ann Curry was not invited.

LA Weatherman Loses Round in Lawsuits against CBS

LA Weatherman Loses Round in Lawsuits against CBS

Weatherman Kyle Hunter sued KCBS/KCAL because they hired young hotties to do the weather and hot him. He claimed it was discrimination.

Hunter lost on an appeal by CBS.

Courthouse News Service writes that casting decisions made by local news networks qualify as protected speech and cannot be challenged in an employment discrimination lawsuit, a California appeals court ruled.

Meteorologist Hunter sued CBS Broadcasting in 2012 after he claimed its two LA-area affiliates - KCBS and KCAL - "repeatedly shunned him for numerous on-air broadcasting decisions due to his gender and age." He added that as early as 2010 network executives had decided to turn the primetime weather gig over to "younger attractive females."

Hunter claimed that KCAL even posted a "sham" job notice for its weather anchor position after it had already hired a young, blonde female to fill the position. He added that while he has 23 years of weather forecasting experience - and is certified by the American Meteorological Society - the new hire lacked certification and only had "two or three years of experience."

CBS Correspondent could Jump to the NYPD

n-JOHN-MILLER-NYPD-large570.jpg

CBS's John Miller's resume reads something like this. Journalist, Cop, Journalist, Cop, Journalist, FBI, Journalist.

And now it looks like he's going to go back to being a cop.

HuffPo writes that Miller is rumored to be in line for a top post under incoming NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton.

Miller twice worked for Bratton, with whom he remains close. But the journalist-turned-law enforcement official-turned-journalist told HuffPost that he hasn't "had any formal offer for any particular position."

After two decades in journalism, Miller left NBC in 1994 to become Bratton’s deputy commissioner for public information in the NYPD. Miller next jumped to ABC News before going to work for Bratton again during his stint as LAPD commissioner, serving as chief of counterterrorism and criminal intelligence. He later worked for the FBI and Office of the Director of National Intelligence before joining CBS News in 2011.

The latest speculation is that Bratton will appoint Miller to a top counterterrorism or intelligence role.

It’s expected Bratton will tap Miller to “revamp the NYPD intelligence division.”

At CBS News, Miller is often called upon to work his deep law enforcement sources following a major crime, like a mass shooting, or on counterterrorism issues. He's a regular on the "CBS This Morning" and has done segments for "60 Minutes."

But in a Men's Journal profile earlier this year, Kevin Gray wrote that "despite his success at CBS, Miller admits that he still feels tempted to jump to the other side of the yellow tape again."

"Whenever something big happens, you watch it," Miller told Men's Journal. "But then you remember the last time you were there, how you saw the reporters and said, 'Look at those guys out there. They probably know more than we do.'"

Reached by phone Thursday, Miller acknowledged to HuffPost that Bratton is "one of my best friends." But as for the incoming commissioner planning to offer him a specific job, he said, “you know as much about this as I do.”

MSNBC's Chris Hayes Attended Secret Union Meeting

hayes_nbc-620x412.jpg

As if MSNBC doesn't have enough problems, now word comes that MSNBC host Chris Hayes attended a secret meeting with employees of Peacock Productions, an NBC Universal-owned production outfit that is seeking to unionize.

Salon.com writes that Hayes is one of five prime-time MSNBC hosts – along with Rachel Maddow, Al Sharpton, Lawrence O’Donnell and Ed Schultz – whose support the Writers Guild of America–East is seeking in an ugly labor struggle with Peacock Productions, which is owned by NBC Universal and has produced programming for MSNBC. A petition posted by the AFL-CIO and hosted by MoveOn.org Civic Action asks the five hosts to “Please meet with these workers and take a public stand to support their right to organize” at Peacock Productions. None of the five has so far publicly addressed the issue.

Hayes, Maddow, Sharpton and O’Donnell did not comment in response to Monday inquiries (sent to MSNBC or personal email addresses, to Sharpton’s National Action Network, and to Random House, which published Maddow’s book; Random House referred the inquiry to MSNBC).

But, asked about the campaign, Schultz emailed Salon, “Moveon.org has never been an ally of Ed Schultz, why should I help you with a story? Give me a reason.” A follow-up email was not answered. (The email came from a personal address provided to Salon by people who have been in touch with him there; following a series of inquiries, an MSNBC spokesperson said, “I can’t confirm that e-mail address,” but declined to dispute that it belonged to Schultz.)

In apparent contrast to his colleagues, Hayes met with Peacock Productions workers in a private meeting with WGA-E staff at the union’s office, according to people who were in the room (Hayes did not respond to a Monday request to comment on that account). “We presented our case to Chris Hayes and he understood what we were dealing with …” Peacock Productions worker David Van Taylor told Salon. “I don’t know whether Chris Hayes will do anything in support of us – you know, of this campaign. I have no idea. But he listened and he heard us. And you know, I appreciate that he took the time to listen.

Unions Paid MSNBC's Ed Schultz Big Bucks

Crazy Ed.jpg

Speaking of unions and MSNBC, Host Ed Schultz who likes to beat the union drum on his show was paid more than a quarter of a million bucks by union groups between 2012 and 2013, according to data from the U.S. Department of Labor.

Politico says that those payments — which came from AFL-CIO electrical workers, postal workers, and others — were designated for either "political" or "representational" activities. Union auto workers alone paid Ed Schultz Broadcasting LLC a total of $72,000 in 2012.

In a statement to POLITICO, MSNBC spokesperson Lauren Skowronski said the payments were for advertisements on Schultz's radio show and website and for speaking engagements. She also said that all funds from speaking engagements were donated to charity, in keeping with company policy.

“Independent from MSNBC, Ed's radio show and website sell advertising to a variety of clients — both union and non-union," Skowronski said. "Also as previously noted, Ed has donated the honorarium from speaking engagements to charity, per network policy.”

Early last year, after reports that Schultz was paid $199,900 by unions in 2011, Schultz said on his show that all the money he received for speeches went to charity; in this case, the American Cancer Society. A letter from the Society shows that it received $100,000, roughly half the total Schultz received from unions.

The Department of Labor database does not show the union payments to Ed Schultz Broadcasting in 2011. It shows $177,000 from unions in 2012 and $75,000 from unions in 2013, as well as a $10,000 payment from a local, state, county and municipal workers union in Fargo, N.D., in 2009. All of the payments identify the payee as Ed Schultz Broadcasting LLC.

Schultz frequently promotes union workers and causes on his MSNBC show and on his radio program. He also has representatives from unions as guests on his show. This week, Teamsters leader James Hoffa and Larry Cohen, the president of the Communications Workers of America, both appeared on the show.

Megyn Kelly: Kids Santa is Real and He's White

Screen Shot 2013-12-12 at 10.41.19 AM.png

Fox News Anchor Megyn Kelly wants kids to know that Santa is a historical figure, he's real and he's white.

During her show last night, Fox News' Megyn Kelly addressed a this article that argued that Santa Claus should no longer be portrayed as a white man. Maybe he should be a penguin instead, argued Aisha Harris, the Slate writer. Kelly's reaction? Nope.

"By the way, for all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white but this person is just arguing that maybe we should also have a black Santa," Kelly said, before briefly pausing to acknowledge that she can sort of kind of understand how that might be painful for a black child. But only kind of sort of. "Just because it makes you feel uncomfortable doesn't mean it has to change," she added.

But she didn't stop there. She went on to address Jesus' race. You know, the Semitic fellow allegedly born in the Middle East 2000 years ago.

"Jesus was a white man, too," Kelly said. "He was a historical figure. That's a verifiable fact — as is Santa. I just want the kids watching to know that. My point is, how do you just revise it in the middle of the legacy of the story and change Santa from white to black?"

Can someone tell Kelly that Santa is not real. Please!

By the way, she argued the point of Santa's whiteness with her all white panel.

Just saying....
