This is the One App Every News Department Needs

As you know, when it comes to Sponsors on FTVLive we only accept companies that are at the top of their game and companies that believe in.

When FTVLive decided to knock down the paywall, we reached out to the best companies in and around TV News. Those were the companies that we wanted on board.

FTVLive has done what not many other websites (or TV stations for that matter) would ever do. We have turned down company and a TV Agent that wanted to place and ad on this website.

If we don't believe in the company, how can we put their product before you guys? We can't and we won't.

So now I want to tell you about a new product that is not advertising on FTVLive.

After the jump. I'll tell you what it is and why your station is crazy if they don't use it.

Philly Station to Farm out Sports Coverage

WCAU_open.png

NBC O&O WCAU is going to farm out their sports coverage to corporate sister Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia.

NBC says that the regional sports network will produce complete sports coverage for WCAU.

“NBC10 is proud to be working with Comcast SportsNet,” said WCAU GM Eric Lerner, in a statement. “We’re committed to finding creative ways to work with CSN and feel strongly that this unique collaboration will provide passionate Philadelphia sports fans with the best sports coverage in the market.”

Plus it will save us a boatload of money, Lerner should have added, but did not.

WCAU sports director Vai Sikahema will stay at the station and will work for both WCAU and Comcast SportsNet.

The station is sending him to Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, where he will file reports for both properties.

FIRST ON FTVLIVE: CNN to go with Lemon at 11

SafariScreenSnapz008.jpg

FTVLive FIRST told you that CNN boss Jeff Zucker is moving Weekend Anchor Don Lemon to Monday through Friday at 11PM.

Lemon's show will be produced  by Piers Morgan's team, led by EP Jonathan Wald, with a few staffers added. The 11PM time slot at CNN is currently running reruns of Erin Burnett's OutFront.

Word is that Lemon will also fill in for Burrnett on her show when she goes on maternity leave.

CNN has tried other shows at 11PM that have failed and have not lasted very long. Word is that Zucker has high hopes for Lemon and according to one source the show "will be given ample time to try and draw and audience".

The show is expected to hit the air in December.

We Told Ya....

When Al Jazeera said they were going to buy the low rated Current TV cable channel and turn it into their own, FTVLive predicted it would be a miserable failure in the ratings.

So, let's check in and see how our prediction is looking so far.

Al Jazeera America is pulling in fewer than half of the viewers who tuned into the low rated Current TV.

AJA has averaged just 13,000 viewers a day since its Aug. 20 launch — on par with a public access channel. In the 25- to 54-year-old audience sought by advertisers, it drew 5,000 viewers.

The ratings are so low, they are considered a “scratch” and aren’t reported by Nielsen.

“We are making large investments in programming and marketing,” an Al Jazeera America spokesperson said Sunday.

By comparison, 31,000 viewers tuned into Current TV a year ago.

We hate to say we told you so (who are we kidding, we love saying that).

George Zimmerman Gift to the Ratings Gods

zimmerman-1-1118.jpg

It appeared that the November book was going to be the first rating book in a longtime that did not included a number of George Zimmerman stories.

That changed yesterday when America's most famous Neighborhood Watchman was arrested for pointing a gun at his girlfriend.

CNN reports that Zimmerman was charged with felony aggravated assault after allegedly pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend, according to Dennis Lemma, chief deputy with the Seminole County, Florida, Sheriff's Office.

Zimmerman, who was acquitted earlier this year of murdering teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested after the incident at the home of Samantha Scheibe, Lemma said. He also was charged with two misdemeanors -- domestic violence battery and criminal mischief -- in connection with the same incident, Lemma said.

Zimmerman is being held in jail without bail and will make his first appearance in front of a judge Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Which we are sure will be another media zoo.

Signing Off in Biloxi

WLOX News Anchor Rebecca Powers is signing off from the station to spend more time.....of hell you know the rest.

Powers told viewers at the end of  sat night's newscast that December 12th will be her last day in the anchor chair.

"I've decided to put my TV career on hold and spend more time with my husband and our two small children," she told viewers. "I know the next few weeks will be very emotional for me. So, I don't want to say too much right now. I'll get a chance to say an appropriate good-bye on the 12th. Just know I love you all, and I know I'm going to miss being in your living rooms each night."

The Money Honey Moving to Fox

Maria-Bartiromo.jpg

It might have been considered a bigger get few years ago, but Fox Business has stolen the Money Honey from CNBC.

Maria Bartiromo is bolting CNBC after 20 years for the Fox den.

The Drudge Report says that Bartiromo will anchor a daily program at Fox, just like she did at CNBC.

CNBC released a statement says that Bartiromo's "contributions to CNBC are too numerous to list but we thank her for all of her hard work over the years and wish her the best.”

We're guessing that they are not wishing her too much success.

CNBC has watched as their ratings have been on a downward slide and losing the Money Honey can't seem to help.

Stay tuned....

Tribune Names new GM at NY Station

amd-11-jpg.jpg

Tribune Company has named Rich Graziano as General Manager of WPIX in New York City.

The company says that Graziano will be responsible for all aspects of the station, including strategic planning and day-to-day operations. He will begin his new duties immediately and report to Larry Wert, Tribune’s President of Broadcast Media.

Since 2009, Graziano has served as the leader of Tribune’s media properties in Hartford, Connecticut; he was named Vice President/General Manager of WTIC-TV (FOXCT) and WCCT-TV (CT) in June 2005.

“Rich is a skilled and innovative leader who has achieved great success in managing large-scale media operations and delivering results for viewers, advertisers and the community,” said Wert. “We’ve made a number of changes at WPIX, both on-the-air and in the management ranks—the station is gaining momentum. Rich is the perfect addition to lead the new team we’ve assembled.”

Graziano was a catalyst for change in Hartford, committed to developing the kind of local content, community events and multi-platform journalism that resulted in unrivaled growth in ratings and revenue. He brings 23 years of media experience to WPIX-TV and has served in positions of increasing responsibility at a number of Tribune television stations. He joined Tribune in 1999 as national sales manager at WLVI-TV in Boston. He was named WLVI’s general sales manager in 2001, a position he held for four years prior to joining WTIC/WCCT in Hartford.

“WPIX is an iconic brand. The station has a distinct history and a wonderful legacy in New York,” said Graziano. “I see tremendous opportunity to lead WPIX to excellence, through hard work, innovation, and by creating value for our viewers and advertising partners.”

Graziano succeeds Eric Meyrowitz, who was kicked to the curb.

Wow! Just How Low Can they Go?

The November book is not over year, but we're going to go out on a limb here.

WKBW will not win the book in the Buffalo. In fact, they might to well to finish 3rd.

Just take a look on Election Day, a day that news departments pull out all the stops.

WKBW had a 1.5 rating. That means 1.5 percent of area households elected to watch the station that at one time dominated local news for decades.

To put that in perspective, “Family Feud” on a UHF channel beat their newscast.

The Buffalo News points out that combined rating for all of WKBW's newscasts in the first week of the sweeps is more than 20 percent lower than it was a year ago when it already was deep in third place.

The station's 5 p.m. average for the first two weeks of the November sweeps was a meager 2.6 rating, about 35 percent of the average of second place WIVB (7.0) and 30 percent of first place WGRZ (9.0).

WKBW's highest-rated evening newscast in the sweeps so far is at 6 p.m. (4.8), where it attracts less than half of the audience of its rivals.

The station is too cheap to pay Nielsen numbers, which is probably a good thing for the egos of its staffers.

All the promise that new General Manager Mike Nurse brought when he took over for Bill Ransom in June has given way to the harsh reality that it may take decades to recover from Ransom’s reign.

Ransom drove the station into the ground is considered by FTVLive to be one of the worst GM's in the history of local news. And that's saying a lot.

Nurse put his attention on the low rated morning show and now the show has gone even lower. Newcomers Tiffany Lundberg and Cole Heath have been virtually ignored at a time morning viewers were ready for a change. The station’s morning ratings have sunk by about one-third.

The station used to be considered a pinnacle of broadcasting, now it's just a joke.

Kind of sad....

45 Years ago Today....

Eyewitness_News_in_New_York_City.jpg

The packaged "Eyewitness News" debuted on WABC in New York 45 years ago today. It was started at KYW in Philly before reaching the Big Apple.

Since then it has been used by countless stations across the country. Tow stations, WLS in Chicago and WKBW in Buffalo, both abandoned Eyewitness News and both brought it back.

WABC, the number one station in the number 1 market has stuck with Eyewitness News since that day 45 years ago.

Eyewitness News was started by Al Primo.

Signing Off in Augusta

Screen Shot 2013-11-18 at 10.27.15 AM.png

Archith Seshadri is leaving WJBF in Augusta after 3 years.

He's head up to Charlotte and WJZY-WMYT.

Seshadri  was a digital journalist at the Augusta station before moving up to weekend morning anchor in 2012.

“It’s gone by fast, and it certainly is bittersweet. I certainly will miss everybody,” Seshadri said on his last newscast. “Thank you for letting me be part of this community, embracing me. I’m so grateful.”

No word if he will also continue his role as Timmy on CBS's show Rules of Engagement.

OK, we're kidding, but tell me that Seshadri (above) doesn't look just like the actor that played Timmy (below) on the comedy Rules of Engagement? Come on! I mean this is the same person...Right?!
