Something happened at Gray Television and now President and Chief Operating Officer Bob Prather out the door.

Prather, which he and partner J. Mack Robinson took over in 1994 and built into a major group through a series of acquisitions.

In a terse announcement, the publicly traded company said that Prather has resigned from "all positions" and that that CEO Hilton Howell will assume the title of president. Howell is Robinson's son-in-law.

Said Howell in a statement: "I want to thank Bob Prather for his service to the company. As we continue to move ahead, I am looking forward to continuing to work closely with our corporate leadership team, as well as all the other members of Gray's outstanding operational leadership team at our television stations.

"This is an exciting and dynamic time in the television broadcasting industry, and after our record year in 2012 we continue to be on track for a very solid year in 2013."

Slowly Being Phased out in the Bugh

sally-wiggin-new_420.jpg

WTAE has been slowly phasing out longtime anchor Sally Wiggin and now they have taken another step in that process.

Wiggin, once the main anchor at the station was busted down to the Noon show and now she's being taken off the anchor desk altogether.

The station announced that she will leave the anchor desk for a new assignment as host of a one-hour ongoing series of news specials called "WTAE Chronicle."

Wiggin did her best to spin the news that she will no longer being on the air each day. "Stations have to think of the future and they want me to be a part of that and that's validating," said Wiggin, 60. "When you get to this age, you want to be challenged because it's good for your brain. This will challenge me in a way reading a TelePrompTer was not."

The station says that Wiggin will continue contributing to WTAE newscasts, though not on a daily basis.

I think we can all agree, It sucks getting old.

She blames her use of the word on being "from the south."

"Contrary to media reports, Ms. Deen does not condone or find the use of racial epithets acceptable," her lawyer, Bill Franklin said. "She is looking forward to her day in court."

She maybe looking forward to her day in court, but not on the Today Show. Deen was scheduled to appear on Today, but didn't show up.

Reporter is All Wet

Reporter is All Wet

We're guessing that the news in Spokane might be a bit slow lately.

KHQ sent Reporter Katie Steiner out to show that when it rains, the streets have water in them. We know..... it's the hard investigative reporting you want.

Steiner was also able to show that if you stand next to water in the road and a car drives through the water, you get wet.

If Steiner doesn't win and Emmy for this reporting, we're crying foul.

We roll the video after the jump.

Chicago Blowtorch to Drop 11AM Newscast

Chicago Blowtorch to Drop 11AM Newscast

You always hate when a news powerhouse pulls the plug on a newscast, but that is exactly what is happening in Chicago.

Our man Robert Feder writes that WLS, Chicago's top-rated television station is dropping its 11 a.m. Monday-through-Friday newscast after more than 20 years this fall to make room on its daytime schedule for the syndicated "Live with Kelly and Michael" and retain the locally produced "Windy City Live."

Linda Yu and Sylvia Perez have been anchoring ABC 7's late-morning newscast since it debuted in September 1992. At the time, they were the first two women to anchor a newscast together in Chicago. Initially a half-hour newscast at 11:30 a.m., it later expanded to a full hour.

The cancellation was prompted by ABC 7's acquisition of "Live with Kelly and Michael," which has been airing at 9 a.m. weekdays on Tribune Broadcasting WGN-Channel 9.
