Sinclair Continues Layoffs

Yesterday, FTVLive FIRST told you that Sinclair had sharpened up the ax and was swinging it at some of their stations.

We told you that cuts were made at WACH (Columbia, SC) and WGXA (Macon.

We also hear that deep cuts were made at WSMH, the Sinclair station in Flint, Michigan. Howard Stirk owns its sister station in Flint, WEYI, Sinclair operates WEYI, and the newsroom is shared with WSMH.

Sources tell FTVLive that Sinclair’s KAEF (Eureka, Calif.) fired all but two reporters.

Once again, as FTVLive told you yesterday, not only are people being cut, but newscasts are also being canceled.

Sinclair is cutting local some newscasts and replacing them with a feed of the company’s “The National Desk.”

In other words, viewers tuning in for local news at the impacted stations are getting a low-rent national newscast containing little or no news for the market.

FTVLive predicted that Sinclair would start doing this years ago, and now they are.

So sad.
