Chicago Anchor on Medical Leave

WLS (Chicago) Anchor Hosea Sanders announced Tuesday night that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He will undergo surgery to remove the cancer Today and be off from work recovering from the surgery for an undisclosed amount of time.

Sanders said he was given the diagnosis from his doctors many weeks ago.

He took to Facebook, to inform viewers:

Friends,
I will be taking some time off from Eyewitness News.
Several weeks ago I was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
I will be undergoing surgery on Wednesday morning as part of the treatment.
I'm in the care of some outstanding professionals and I'm very optimistic about the outcome.
My doctors tell me that African-American men are especially at risk of developing prostate cancer.
My father was one of those men.

I share this information to remind you to get yourself checked out.
It's a simple blood test.
It could save your life.

Thank you for your support and prayers.
I will see you soon

WLS-TV now finds itself short-handed in the newsroom. Along with Sanders' medical leave, weekend anchor Karen Jordan just began her maternity leave and weeknight lead sports anchor Mark Giangreco is on a suspension for a politically-charged social media posting that violated station rules.
