CBS Drops the Ball on Reporting Ali's Death

When Muhammad Ali died, NBC and ABC were ready to report the story. CBS was not.

NBC had Lester Holt on set with the story and ABC went with Elizabeth Vargas just after midnight.

Despite the fact that reports said that Ali was in grave condition, CBS seemed to be taken totally off guard by the news on his death.

Almost a half hour after the NBC and ABC reports, CBS finally got to the story, using KCBS Anchor Paul Magers to deliver the news.

How could the network be so caught off guard? Did the ongoing news budget cuts play a role in CBS dropping the ball? We keep hearing how CBSN is cutting edge, fast, and competitive, so where were they?

Just some of the questions bouncing around Black Rock this morning.
