MSNBC's Tamron Hall Drags Politics onto the Hardwood

Professional sports is now about big business. But, the original attention of pro sports was to provide fans a break and give them some entertainment.

The NBA Finals are going on and instead of just enjoying them for what they are, MSNBC had to make them political.

“Tonight, politics will hit the basketball court with the beginning of the NBA finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers,” Anchor Tamron Hall noted at the start of the segment. “Stephen Curry is going up against LeBron James, both of whom are prominent Democrats who’ve supported the Obamas in major social media campaigns.”

Really?! If Steph Curry and LeBron James were prominent Republicans, would Hall make mention of that? And the bigger question, why bring politics into this at all?

Before introducing her guest, The Nation‘s sports editor Dave Zirin, she defined the playoffs in awkwardly political terms: “The major primary state of California battling the state holding the GOP convention.”

“Sometimes we do try to stretch things and make a political tie out of things,” Hall said, but “this is not a stretch.”

Yes it was a stretch and it was idiotic. Leave sports as a break from the world and surely a break from politics...please!

Just saying....
