Who’s to Blame? Once again, the federal government is shut down, and the finger-pointing in Washington is reaching a fever pitch.Politicians on both sides of the aisle are busy blaming each other, and cable news is filled with pundits telling you why it’s the other party’s fault. But who is really to blame for this mess? The the blame lies with President Donald Trump. Now, that’s not just my opinion; that’s according to Donald Trump himself. Back in 2011, when another President was in office, Trump was crystal clear about where the buck stops. He said, “If there is a shutdown, I think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States.” Don't take my word for it. You can watch the clip of Trump saying that the President is the one to blame. By his own standard, this shutdown is his failure. Yet, if you turn on the national news, you see very little of this. The media seems content to cover the shutdown as a “both sides” issue, failing to hold the President accountable to his own words. Why? It appears the national media is so worried about being the target of the President's next angry tweet that they are afraid to call him out. They'd rather play it safe than report the blatant hypocrisy. Holding public figures accountable, using their own words, used to be Journalism 101. It’s a shame that in today’s media landscape, so many seem to have forgotten that lesson. When local stations do their newscasts tonight, it will likely be a 30 second VO on the shutdown, with out adding any context.
Hundreds of thousands of people are not being paid. The President himself has clearly stated that the President is the person to blame for this. Pull the file clip of him saying that and run it. Do you think any Nexstar or Sinclair station will do that? Of course not. Will network news do it? Nope.
If you don’t think we are living in a country with state run media, you might want to take a second look. Just saying…
