If you think that Glenn Beck is on the far right, you might want to make some more room to the right of Beck, for Roger Ailes.
At least according to Author Gabriel Sherman and his book on the Fox News boss called 'The Loudest Voice in the Room.'
"Roger Ailes is more extreme than Glenn Beck," Sherman told CNN's "Reliable Sources" host Brian Stelter. "One thing that makes Roger Ailes a genius is that he obscures his true agenda. Glenn Beck is transparent."
"Roger Ailes had a conversation, only months ago, in which he told a politician that if he were president, he had the solution to the immigration problem," the author said. "Roger Ailes' solution would be to send Navy SEAL trainees to our southern border and have them find illegal immigrants crossing into the United States and he would give them direct orders to shoot and kill anyone coming into our country."
Sherman says that he started out with the intention of writing a book about Fox News, but soon realized that Fox News is Roger Ailes.
"I went into this process trying to write a book about Fox News, wanting to write a book about Fox News. I realized very early on into my reporting that the story is not Fox News. The story is Roger Ailes. The network is a complete expression of his world view."
Sherman said his own political views didn't enter into writing about Ailes.
"I'm a media reporter," he told Stelter. "In media, the biggest story is Fox News. You know, I consider Roger Ailes to be the biggest media story of the last 50 years in American culture. He is an icon."
As for Fox News, they released a statement to FTVLive saying "This latest effort appears to be another example of the agenda-driven cottage industry built on attacking Fox News. The author's failure to secure an interview with the principal subject does not absolve his fact-checking obligations with the network."
The book hits store shelves tomorrow.
