Another former TV Anchor says he is going to run for political office.

Former Palm Springs and Las Vegas Anchor Dan Ball declared his intentions to run for Congress.

Ball will be the second Republican to mount a challenge to Democratic U.S. Rep. Raul Ruiz.

Ball lives in Palm Desert and is now selling real estate.

He said in an interview that he has become fed up with lawmakers catering to special interests and how political division has made Congress inefficient. He said he did not support recent Republican-led measures on tax and health-care reform, but he also faulted Democrats for passing the flawed Affordable Care Act.

"As a true journalist, I never took a stance. I never had an opinion on air. I've always done my job," he said. "And now I feel like because my daughter is 10, because this is my home, that somebody needs to stand up and make a difference."

Ball voted for President Donald Trump, but he said the optimism he felt on Election Day has waned.

"I thought he was going to make Congress get to work," Ball said. "Fast forward to post election. The rhetoric, the tweets. I've disagreed with about 99 percent of the delivery and the tweets."

"You have a very wide, vast population here that are extreme left, extreme right, but I think most are in the middle, let's be real," Ball said. "And they want somebody that's going to try and unite and bring people together and create legislation that works for everybody."
