Fallen Champion

Tell me you didn't see this one coming....

Sam Champion's contract with The Weather Channel is not being renewed and the one time ABC Good Morning America Anchor will be leaving.

Champion and his co-worker Josh Elliot got played by NBC and are now both long down the highway to relevancy in their careers.

When ABC's Good Morning America was regularly beating NBC's Today Show, NBC tried to put a dent in GMA.

They did it by luring both Champion and Elliott away with big money offers.

Champion went to NBC owned The Weather Channel and Elliot was hired at NBC in a never determined role.

Both got played by NBC and NBC's Today moved back to No. 1 in the ratings.

Elliot is now in the witness protection program that is CBSN (CBS's online streaming service) and a bulk of his paycheck is still being paid by NBC.

Champion, after launching the failed AMHQ at the Weather Channel, is now headed for the exits.

"While Sam will always be part of The Weather Channel family, we have mutually agreed to not enter into a new contract. As our managing editor, host of our flagship AMHQ and his pioneering work on '23.5 Degrees,' Sam's leadership has helped transform The Weather Channel into the dynamic high-quality environment it is today," a TWC spokesperson said. "We are grateful for his contribution and dedication. We wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

In the end, NBC basically torpedoed two careers in an effort to get the Today Show back on top of the ratings.

Is this a great business or what?
